department of
communication
Rex Kyker
Department Head
The Department of Communication seeks to
enable an individual to transmit his ideas to one
or more persons through the basic channels of
communication-oral, visual, and written language.In a world based upon man's ability to communicate
to his fellowman, ACC's Department of
Communication attempts to divide the complexities
of oral and written communications into
specific areas of concentration.
In the oral communications area the department
has three aims:
(1) to improve the general communication habits
of the student body;
(2) to develop communication performance necessary
to professional efficiency and community
leadership among the more talented;
and
(3) to give training and experience to prospective
teachers of communication.
One facet of visual communication is incorporated
in the drama division of the department.
Here you learn to project moods and
emotions through study and participation in stage
productions.
Written communication includes study of
methods and techniques of writing as well as
actual involvement in either student publicationthe
Optimist, weekly campus newspaper, or the
Prickly Pear, yearbook.
