ELEANOR BROCKMAN BARTON MEMORIAL
SCHOLARSHIP. For: worthy graduate students. Established:
1969 by Mr. and Mrs. Leon Locke.
BLUE KEY SCHOLARSHIP ("A" CLUB). For:
worthy and needy graduate students. Amount: two $250
awards available per year. Requirements: 3.0 gradepoint
average, maintained also in graduate work. Established:
ACC "A" Club chapter of Blue Key National
Honor Fraternity.
LEONARD BURFORD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.
For: ACC graduate students. Type: income from over
$5,000 in invested funds. Established: 1961-62 by students
and faculty under leadership of Blue Key in honor
of Dr. Leonard Burford, long-time head of the Department
of Music. Blue Key plans to add to fund yearly
until it reaches $10,000.
Home Economics
LYLIAN ARLEDGE SCHOLARSHIP. For: home
economics majors who have completed three semesters
of college work. Established 1969 by the Home Economics
Club.
WILMETH HOME ECONOMICS SCHOLARSHIP.
For: junior or senior woman home economics major.
Amount: $250 per year. Established: 1956 by Miss
Marie Wilmeth of the Department of Home Economics
in memory of her brothers, Capt. L. G. Wilmeth and
Lt. Eugene D. Wilmeth, who lost their lives in World
War II.
Music
MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS. For: freshman voice major
and freshman piano major, on basis of ability. Amount:
$125 for freshman year and $125 for sophomore year.
Physical Education
BUDDY COLSTON MEMORIAL GOLF SCHOLARSHIP.
Preference to: worthy young men who are interested
in playing on the golf team. Established: 1964
by a group of friends of Buddy Colston.
GUY A SCRUGGS SCHOLARSHIP. For: students
majoring in physical education. Established: 1965 by
Mr. and Mrs. Guy a Scruggs.
Physics
HOSEA H. LEWIS SCHOLARSHIP. For: physics student,
on basis of attitude, excellence and need. Type:
income from invested funds. Established: 1954 by Mrs.
Hosea H Lewis and son James Kelley in memory of
Hosea Hi Lewis, their husband and father and longtime
teacher of physics at ACC.Science
OTTO FOSTER SCIENCE AWARD. For: science students.
Requirements: selection by science faculty and
Otto Foster. Established: 1954 by Mr. and Mrs. Otto
Foster of Cleburne, Texas, and Mrs. Rita Stocking of
Washington, D.C.
J. WARREN AND TRENTIE JACKSON SCHOLARSHIP.
For: science students preference. Established:
by Dr. and Mrs. J. Warren Jackson of Kerrville, Texas.
Special Scholarships
ADAMS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND. Type:
$3,000 memorial fund. Established: 1938 by children
of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Adams. Present site of ACC
was part of old Adams family homestead.
A. S. AND SALLY McKEE BAILEY SCHOLARSHIP.
Established: 1955 by Katherine McKee Bailey.
ANDERSON-ADAMS SCHOLARSHIP. For: worthy
students from Ward County with preference to speech,
physical therapy, or education students. Established:
1969 by Hal E. and Annie B. Adams.
R. C. BELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP. For:
worthy students. Established: 1966 by former students
of R. C. Bell.
W. H. BENNEIT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
FUND. For: worthy students. Type: income from
memorial fund. Established: by friends and relatives
of Mr. W. H. Bennett.
SHELBY BOWLES, JR., SCHOLARSHIP FUND. Established:
1961 by Mr. Byron Fullerton of Austin,
Texas, and members of family in honor of Shelby
Bowles, Jr., who died in an accident shortly before his
ninth birthday.
INDA BURRUS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP. For:
worthy students. Established: 1966 by Mr. and Mrs.
Dennis E. Oldham.
W. E. CANTRELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP. Established:
1951 by Mrs. W. E. Cantrell, now deceased,
in memory of her husband, W. E. Cantrell.
J. Q. CARTER SCHOLARSHIP. Preference given
to students of junior standing or above. Established:
1965 by Mr. and Mrs. J. Q. Carter and Mr. and Mrs.
William B. Decker.
JENNIE CLARK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP. For:
men and women entering ACC from orphan homes of
the churches of Christ. Established: 1930 by ACC
Board of Trustees in appreciation for work of the late
Mrs. Jennie Clark of Luling, Texas, with orphan children.26
