One hour of college credit will be given for one lesson per
week, with one hour daily practice. Two hours credit may be had
for two lessons per week, with two hours daily practice, or three
hours credit in the case of music majors, for two lessons per week,
with three hours daily practice.
Class Work
Music 107-108-Orchestra.
The orchestra is made up of men and women who have attained
some proficiency in the playing of orchestral instruments.
The work is conducted along symphonic lines. Two rehearsals
each week. Beginning classes in the various instruments of the
orchestra are available in the college.
Music 110-Church Music.
The staff, rhythm and metre, solfeggio, key signatures. Experience
in directing church music. Hymnology.
Music 115-116-A Capella Chorus.
An organization consisting of forty men and women selected
from the student body. Religious and secular programs are
prepared and an operetta is presented each year. Five rehearsals
each week. A ladies' sextet, and mens' quartet are selected
from this organization by competitive examination. Private voice
is required of these students, which may be had for eighteen
dollars per semester, rather than the regular tuition of fortyfive
dollars. Students who are unable to pay the eighteen dollars
per semester will be permitted to work for that amount.
Music 117-127-Band.
An organization of men and women who have attained some
proficiency in the playing of band instruments. The repertoire
is selected from standard band material. Five rehearsals each
week.
Music 137-147-Band.
A continuation of 117 and 127 with more attention to concertmusic.
Five rehearsals each week.
Music 200-Music Theory.
The staff, piano keyboard, rhythm and metre, major and minor
signatures, major and minor scales, intervals, triads and seventh
chords, and their inversions.
Music 201-Ear Training and Sight Singing.
Exercises in sight singing using solfeggio syllables, movable do.
Exercises in dictation from the text, and standard musical
literature.. Text used, "Ear Training and Sight Singing," Book
