312-General Zoology.
A continuation of Biology 311. Beginning with insects, the remainder
of the invertebrates and all representative vertebrates
are studied. Two lectures and four hours of laboratory work.
340-Hygiene and Physiology.
Personal hygiene and a beginning study of the human body. Included
are scientific health facts and their application to the
daily life and habits of the individual. Causes and means of
prevention of contagious diseases and principles of immunization.
Two lectures and three hours laboratory.
342-Human Psysiology.
A thorough study of the human body. Prerequisite: nine hours
of biology or Biology 340 and junior standing. Two lectures and
three hours laboratory work.
380-Histology.
A study of the microscopic structure of the different tissues and
organs of the human body. Prerequisite: Human Physiology.
Six hours of laboratory work with reading and conferences.
381-Genetics.
Lectures, problems, and laboratory study of illustrative material.
Prerequisite: General Zoology or Botany. Two lectures and
three hours of laboratory work.
383-Vertebrate Anatomy.
An intensive study of the anatomy of representative vertebrates.
Nine hours of laboratory work. Offered alternate years.
384-Embryology.
General studies of germ cells, maturation, fertilization, cleavage,
etc., and a study of the early stages of development of the
frog, the chick, and the pig. Two lectures and three hours laboratory.
Prerequisite: Zoology (311, 312) and Human Body (342).
Offered on demand.
390-Bacteriology.
Principles of bacteriology. Morphology, culture, and staining of
bacteria, yeasts, and molds, with special attention given to
pathogenic bacteria. Total counts on water and milk. Three
hours lecture and four hours laboratory.
392-Systematic Botany.
Lectures on the classification of plants and laboratory and field
work in collection, identification, and mounting. Chiefly laboratory.

Chemistry
Students who choose chemistry as their major subject may elect
either biology, mathematics, home economics, or education as their
minor subject. At least 24 hours of chemistry must be completed,
twelve of which must be advanced. In addition each student must
complete twelve hours of French or German, twelve hours of math70
