328.-The Teaching of Music in Elementary Grades. Topics:
Outline for three years' work; tone production; sequentials;
dictation; major and minor modes studied and distinguished;
two and three part singing; study of instruments; sight reading;
extensive work in music appreciation; correlation with other
subjects.
COURSES IN SECONDARY EDUCATION
Principles and Methods
320.-Principles of Secondary Education. This course is
designed to acquaint the student with those general principles
upon which our system of secondary education is based. Such
problems as the origin of our high schools, the influence of
European secondary schools in America, individual differences,
the high school curricula, and problems of like nature are
stressed. This course is required of all those who major in
Education, and should be taken by all who expect to teach in
the high school.
335.-High School Methods. The aim of this course is to
acquaint the student with the various methods of teaching the
basic high school subjects. The textbook, problem, project, inductive-development,
socialized recitation, laboratory, and the
lecture methods will be considered and applied to the various
subjects. Class-room efficiency, discipline, and individualizing
instruction are other problems to be studied. This course should
be taken by those who expect to get the four year high school
certificate at the end of the sophomore year. Should be pre
ceded by Psychology 321.
391.-High School Teaching. An advanced course in high
school methods. It deals with the nature and organization of
high school subject matter and the best methods of presenting
this to bring about the growth and development of the adolescent.
The newer methods will receive special attention.
392.-Observation of Teaching. The course will consist of
the observance of teaching in the Academy, the Training School
and the Abilene Public Schools. Detailed reports must be made
of these and these reports will form a basis for class room dis24
