181, 182.-Fourth Year Voice.
Scales suitable to the individual voice which will show advanced
study. One aria from opera or oratorio, selected by the teacher to show
breath control, orDanlent, sostenuto, staccato, diction, and varied interpretation,
according to the type of voice. One classical song of
Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, etc. The student must present a recital
program containing not less than ten numbers arranged for concert
purposes.
Note: Students receiving credit in Voice are required to report for daily practice
as prescribed by the instructor.
115, 116.-A Cappella Chorus.
The A Cappella Chorus is open to all young men and young women
in the College who can qualify. Two programs are prepared during
the year, one religious and one secular, which consist of numbers
arranged for women's voices, for men's voices, and for mixed chorus.
This chorus makes many public appearances in and around Abilene.
Two rehearsals each week. A student must be a member of the
chorus for the entire year in order to receive credit for the work, and
must commit to memory all of the songs studied. A ladies' sextet,
and a men's quartet are selected from the chorus by judges not connected
with the college.
247.-Sight Singing.
The staff, notes, measures, divisions, rhythm, major scales, chromatic
tones, ties, slurs, syncopation triplets, reading exercises and songs.
248.-Sight Singing.
Diatonic intervals, triads and inversions, modulation, dominant key,
reading exercises and songs.
357.-Teaching of Music in Elementary Grades.
This course deals with methods of teaching music in grades one to
seven, (See Education Department).
358.-Music Appreciation.
This course deals with music appreciation and its relation to the
public school. It intends to cultivate the art of listening and appre.
ciation of good music from the classic, romantic and modern periods.

CERTIFICATE
At the end of the third year of Voice study a student may receiye a
certificate by meeting the following requirements; Two years of College work,
two years of work in piano, two years of harmony, one year each of Counterpoint,
composition, history and appreciation of music, sight singing, and A
Cappella Chorus. A public recital of not fewer than nine numbers shall be
presented.
DIPLOMA
At the end of tLe fourth year of Voice study a diploma may be received
by completing the following requirements: Three years of College work, two
years each of piano, harmony, counterpoint, composition, and A Capella
Chorus, one year of sight singing, one year of history and appreciation of
music. A public recital of not fewer than nine numbers shall be presented.57
