HOW STUDENTS MAY BE ADMITTED
1. BY CERTIFICATE OF GRADUATION.-Students coming from Texas schools
classified and accredited by the State Department of Education upon presentation of a
certificate with a statement giving in detail the amount of work in each subject and the
grade made will be admitted. The diploma will not suffice. Please attend to this before
leaving home. REGISTRATION IS NOT PERMITTED UNTIL THIS STATEMENT IS
kECEIVED.
2. BY INDIVIDUAL APPROVAL.-At the discretion of the Dean an applicant over
twentyone years of age may be admitted without examination. He will be credited with
such work as he shall have completed; but such credit may be only tentative and will be
further tested by work in class. Persons who have been in school recently are not expected
to be in this class.
3. BY EXAMINATION.-Any or all scholarship requirements may be met by passing
the admission examinations. To secure credit ir any subject the applicant must make a
grade not lower than 60. In grading examination papers strict account is taken of the
applicant's English and spelling.
College entrance examinations are given at Abilene Christian College
during the first three days of registration. College entrance examinations are
also conducted by all county superintendents of the State. beginning the second
Monday in May, under the direction of the State Department of Education.
Credits earned in this way are accepted by Abilene Christian College.
The following classes of applicants are required to take examinations for admission
units:
(1) Those coming from unaffiliated schools must be examined in all subjects in
which they would receive credit.
(2) Graduates from affiliated high schools or holders of any teachers' certificates,
whose approved units are less than fifteen, will be examined for the remaining number
of units.
(3) Students from affiliated high schools who are not graduates will be required
to take examinations in all subjects in which they expect credit.
In any case, if a student, after being permitted to enter college in any department,
fails to demonstrate his ability to carry the course with satisfaction to the professor in
charge, the amount of credit (high school or college) given may be reduced or canceled
and he may be required to enter a lower class.
4. ADMISSION BY TEACHER'S CERTIFICATE.-A holder of a teacher's high
school certificate or of a first grade certificate is entitled to 81V units. Deficiencies must
be met by examination and work in the college.
5. ADMISSION FROM OTHER COLLEGES.-A student seeking admission from
other colleges must present a letter of honorable dismissal, a catalog of the college from
which he comes, and a full statement of the work he has done, including high school
credits. This statement must be made out on an official blank and properly signed by
the authorities of the college where the work was done. He must also furnish evidence of
good moral character and honorable standing in the school last attended.
High school credits may not be transferred to college until after all admission requirements
have been fulfilled. Students desiring college credits based on high school work
must make application for the credit not later than three months after they enter. Once
entered, either as high school or college credits, they may not be traded about for other
requirements.15
