The Departlnment of IHome Economics offers a college education
leading to tile degree of Bachtelor of Science. The ainm of the De.tartiment
is to Ipelare young women for tile ilmportantt po.itio(n of
lome lumaking and for the vocations whxic grow out of lionle lmakug
activities. Tlhe courses are arranged to meet the needs of
those students w\io desire a good foundation in the subjects relating
to problems of the home; for those whlo wish to prepare e tilelCselves
for teaching home economics; for those wlho wish to enter
conlnercial fields; andl or those registered in other departments
of the College x1, o may choose home economics courses as a Iart of
a liberal education.
Students in tlhe other Departments of Arts and Sciences may
use six semester hours of home economics as partial fulfillment of
the requirements for natural science.
Requirements for Bachelor of Science degree in Home Eco1no10ics:A maximum of thirty-six semester hours is permitted in home
economics.
1 inor: Bible, English, education, natural science, music,
speech arts, or physical education. Prescribed: General Chemistry
(8 hours); physiology and personal hygiene (6i hours); bacteriology
(3 hours) ' child or adolescent phychology (2 hours); home
economics 201, 202, 311, 212, 221, 220, 230, 320, 240, 353, 361, 380; Art
320.
Tlie students of this department may secure a Special Three
Year, Four Year, or Permanent Certificate in Home Economics
from tle State Department of Education by satisfying the following
requirements:
1. Special Three Year Certificate. Satisfactorily complete
sixty semester hours, at least six of which shall be in English, six
in education, twelve in home economics, one of these courses
must include a methods course in home economics.
2. Special Four Year Certificate. Satisfactorily complete
ninety semester hours, at least six in English, six in education,
'and nine in home economics with three in methods.
3. Special Permanent Certificate. Complete one hundred and
twenty semester hours, at least six in English, six in education,
and twenty-four in home economics with special methods course.69
