one or more of the college publications. The staff of The Optimist
is elected from its members.
PHILO-ZELLNER LITERARY SOCIETY.
The society is composed of both boys and girls. It was organized
at the beginning of the 1913-'14 session, and has done excellent
work during the succeeding years. The programs are
varied and offer an excellent opportunity to those who avail themselves
of the opportunities. During the session of 1919-20 the
society became a member of the Philo Federation of Texas.
JAS. A. HARDING LITERARY SOCIETY.
This society was organized at the beginning of the 1913-'14
session, and is composed of both boys and girls. The excellency
of this society is shown by the honors it has won. The society
became affiliated with the Erisophean-Ophelian federation of societies
during the session of 1920-21.
THE ALAMO DEBATING CLUB.
The purpose of this club is to encourage and assist young men
in public speaking and in debating. The club furnishes the college
debaters.
ATHLETICS.
It shall be the purpose of the school to make athletics a
means to an end. Football, basketball, baseball, volley ball, and
tennis are all given a place. The young ladies take calisthenic
drill. During the summer of 1920 an excellent athletic park was
constructed, with a first-class, commodious grandstand. For additional

ALUMNI.
During the session 1916-'17 an Alumni Association was organized.
It is the purpose of the association to help its Alma
Mater in every way possible.
Membership is divided into three classes:
Regular membership will be given only to those who have
completed a college course.
Associate membership will be given to any one who has been
in A. C. C. one session.34
