44 ABILENE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE
343.-Historic Books of the Old Testament, Excepting I and
II Chronicles. This course deals with the harder problems of
Old Testament interpretation. All students taking this series
should have had the 143, 153 and 163 series previously. The relationship
of bibical to secular history is given special attention.
The light of recent archeological and historical data is thrown
upon the Scriptures. The origin and composition of the various
books are discussed. A thorough synopsis of each book is given.
Maps and stereopticon views will be used to acquaint the student
with the geographical and historical background of the events.
353.-The Poetry of the Old Testament. The poetic books of
the Old Testament together with I and II Chronicles are given
careful attention. Those matters which particularly relate to
types of Old Testament poetry are presented. The material in
the Chronicles and Kings accounts relating to the lives of David
and Solomon is brought out in connection with Psalms, Proverbs
and the Song of Solomon. Job will receive large attention.
363.-Prophetic Books of the Old Testament. This course
gives a brief review of the conditions under which the prophets
spoke, which are emphasized in Bible 343. The major emphasis
is upon the profound mesages of God through the prophets, and
the application of those principles to modern times. The social
and religious values of these books are emphasized by outside
reading assignments and lectures.
373.-The Messianic Hope of Israel and Its Fullfilment In
Jesus of Nazareth. The hope of Israel is considered briefly and
in detail study is given to the life and teaching of Christ as it fulfilled
this hope and met the deep, profound need of humanity
for a Savior. This course is one of microscopic exegesis. References
are freely made to the best encyclopedias and commentaries,
and special emphasis is laid upon the application of the
life and teaching of Christ to the problems of our own time.
383.-The Extension of God's Kingdom Among the Hebrews.
Acts and the Epistles of Peter, John, James and Jude will be
studied. This course sets forth that portion of the Acts which
especially relates to the work among the Jews. Attention is given
to all the material of the New Testament in its application to Hebrew
Christians and the extension of the Kingdom of God among
men. Certain epistles of Paul are also read in the light of their
influence upon the work of the Church among the Hebrews.
393.-The Extension of God's Kingdom Among the Gentiles.
All the material of the New Testament as it relates to the extension
of the Kingdom of Heaven among the Gentiles will be stres
