ABILENE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE
The Academy
GENERAL STATEMENT
The work of the Academy is planned to correspond with that of
the best high schools. Certificates of graduation are conferred
upon the completion of this work. But entrance into college is the
chief objective. In the summer session special attention is given Lo
those students who are preparing for entrance into college this fall.
The Academy is affiliated in sixteen units.
OUTLINE OF COURSES
BIBLE
Bible 2. The life of Christ is studied from the four gospels
in Chronological order.
Bible 4. Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy,
Joshua, Judges, Ruth, and Job.
ENGLISH
English 2. Clippinger's, Written and Spoken English Book I;
Literature and Life Book II, Greenlaw and Stratton.
English 4. Long's English Literature. Class room study of
classics. Weekly themes. Magazine reading. Memory work.
Parallel reading. Selections from English Literature by Payne
and Hill, Written and Spoken English Book II.
HISTORY
History 3. American History.
MATHEMATICS
2. Algebra. This course is a continuation of Algebra I. Stress
will be laid upon equations and radicals. Solution of equations by
graphs will receive a great deal of attention. Text: Wentworth's
New School Algebra.
3. Plane Geometry. The solution of exercises and originals
will constitute a large part of the course. Text: Wentworth &
Smith Plane Geometry.
4. Advanced Arithmetic. In this course stress is laid on drill
in fundamentals in order to make it as practical as possible. Text:
Wells and Hart.
SPANISH
Spanish will be offered if there is sufficient demand for it.
SCIENCE
Physiology: Advanced Physiology and Hygiene by Conn and
Buddington.
Physiography: New Physical Geography, R. S. Tarr.
ELECTIVES
Commercial Geography: A general course dealing with the
fundamentals of the subject. Text: Industrial Geography, Whitbeck.Civics. Text: Ashley.
Other courses will be given if the demand is sufficient.20
