intended to equip one for teaching in all phases of High School
English. Same as Education 383. Spring quarter.
DEPARTMENT OF HOME ECONOMICS
Those majoring in the Department of Home Economics must
take Chemistry 115 and 125.
123. Elementary Clothing. Winter Quarter. Laboratory
six hours a week. Lab. Prerequisites: Clothing 113 or 143 and
Clothing 142 (design). The purpose of this course is to give
the student knowledge which will enable her to select, construct,
and care for appropriate wash clothing intelligently. Topics:
(1) A study of garments suited to the income, occasion, and
individual; (2) The selection, construction, and care of typical
undergarments; (3) The planning and making typical wash
garments of cotton and linen; (4) The care of these garments;
(5) The use and care of the sewing machine; (6) The use of
commercial patterns.
133. Clothing. Elementary dressmaking. Spring quarter.
Six hours laboratory. Prerequisites: Clothing 113, 123, 143. The
purpose of this course is to enable the student to plan and construct
appropriate and becoming sport, street, and afternoon
garments. Topics: (1) It includes the study of designs and materials
suitable for sport, street, and afternoon garments; (2)
the construction of garments of linen, wool, and silk; (3) Appropriate
accessories; (4) Use and care of garments.
313. Clothing. Pattern drafting and construction. Laboratory
six hours a week. Prerequisite Clothing 142, 133. The
purpose of this course is to give a more thorough knowledge
of the human form and of the principles of drafting and designing,
and their application to pattern making. It includes
padding the dress form to fit the tight fitted lining; construction
of wool and silk garments, appropriate accessories.
123. Foods Senior Year. Laboratory four hours per week.
Lecture one hour per week. Parallel or prerequisite, Chemistry
115-125, if students desire to major in Home Economics. This
course includes the study of fundamental principles of selection
and preparation of various types of foodstuff; also a study of the
production, manufacture, and nutritive value of foods. Special
emphasis is placed on simple attractive home service with well
balanced meals for the family.SUMMER SCHOOL
