SUMMER SESSION
"Teachers employed in state aid schools shall be required to
have a minimum of two years of college training or the equivalent
thereof and shall be required to hold a Texas State Teacher's Certificate
of no lower standing than a six-year elementary or a fourstate
aid schools not measuring up to this standard may continue
year high school grade provided that those teachers now in the
their work in state aid schools, if they attend a standard state teacher's
college or other standard college or university each summer
until such standard shall have been attained. In so far as possible,
teachers in state aid schools shall secure special preparation in the
subjects or grades wherein they are employed to teach."
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Effective September, 1935, all beginning classroom teachers
in any public school system in Texas who have anything to do with
directing the physical activities of children must have not less
than six semester hours in physical education along with their
other preparation for classroom duties.
A staff of five instructors in physical education has been provided
to take care of the needs of teachers and coaches who find it
necessary or desirable to study in this department.
GOLF AND INTRA-MURAL SPORTS
The college maintains a golf course for its students and those
possessing clubs are urged to bring them.
Intra-mural contests in popular sports and games are carried
on during the summer.
BIBLE STUDY IN THE SUMMER
The principal reason for the existence of Abilene Christian
College is emphasis on the teaching of the Bible. If it does not
provide a better spiritual atmosphere and if it does not cause the
Bible to be kept more prominently before the people as man's
safest guide through this world, then it should cease to exist. Our
bid for patronage is based largely on the fact that here students
will have about them continually a Christian influence not found
elsewhere and. also, a rare opportunity for studying God's Holy
Word.
A number of Bible courses are offered each term by our regular
Bible teachers. As ulsal, chapel is held each day; and every
student is expected to attend. On Sunday, Bible classes, Lord's Day13
