GENERAL INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
Location.
Daniel Baker College is located on the highest point in the
City of Brownwood, Texas. The location is everything that one
could desire for a College. It is very near the geographical center
of the State, easily reached by the Santa Fe and Frisco Railroads.
Brownwood is about 140 miles from Fort Worth and 130 miles
from Temple. The location is favorable for study and for the
development of strong and wholesome characters. The people of
Brownwood are moral, cultured and religious.
Too much can not be said in favor of the location so far as
the climate is concerned. The altitude, 1,342 feet, renders the
climate dry, bracing and healthful. Malaria, dengue and typhoid
are practically unknown, and it is easy to see the rapid change in
boys and girls who come here to this invigorating atmosphere.
Campus
The College Campus is in the southern part of the city. The land
was donated, in fee simple, by Mr. S. R. Coggin, a co-laborer with
Dr. McClelland. There are about eaght acres, on which are the
Administration Building, Science Hall, Qirls Dormitory, and the
S. R. Coggin Memorial Chappel, just completed.
Administration Building.
Most of the classrooms, the library and the President's office are
located in this building. This is a three-story stone structure of
attractive architectural design. The rooms are well ventilated and
lighted, and each room is heated by a gas stove. The first floor
contains the library and recitation rooms.
The Science Hall.
The Science Department occupies the building that was formerly
used as a dormitory. This building is being renovated and fitted
up for laboratories.9
