A working cattleman himself, Mr. Haley has captured the essence
of the Texas experience in his writings. Among his
many books are included: Charles Goodnight, Cowman and M
Plainsman; The XIT Ranch of Texas and Early Days of the
Llano Estacado; Houghton Mifflin; George W Littlefield,
Texas; Life on the Range; and Charles Schreiner, General
Merchandise: The Story of a Country Store. It has been said

Raiford Stripling's name is well known within the architectural restoration
profession and among scholars of Texas heritage. He has devoted
his professional career to the study of the heritage of the state and to
the preservation and restoration of the early indigenous architecture
of Texas. Because of Stripling's thorough examination of our past
through historic buildings, their preservation and their authentic restoration,
a perspective of past events is created. Mr. Stripling was born
in San Augustine, Texas, November 23, 1910. He earned his B.S. degree
in Architectural Design from Texas A&M University in 1931,
winning the last F. 0. Witchell Gold Medal Award. He was subsequently
employed by the college architects at Texas A&M University
and the University of Texas; the National Park Service for the restoration
of Fort Parker, Mexia, and Mision Espiritu Santo, Goliad; and the
Kathryn O'Conner Foundation for the Restoration of the Presidio La
Bahia, Goliad. He is registered as Texas Architect No. 198. His practice
is in San Augustine, Texas.

G. William Jones is the Acting Director at the Center
for Communication Arts, Southern Methodist University,
Dallas where he is also a professor of cinema. He is
the Director of the Southwest Film and Video Archives,
on the Film Archives Advisory Committee, and has
\r-j been a member of the Texas Film Commission for 15
years. Recently Mr. Jones has acquired a stack of film
cans found in a Tyler, Texas warehouse which has re,
ceived intense scholarly and media attention. This
body of film is a priceless record of the styles & manners,
aspirations and attitudes of black America beg
tween 1920 and 1950. These artifacts of a lostculture
will provide film historians and black-culture researchers
a valuable resource on the world of black
cinema. After his talk about these films and the movie
I industry in Texas, one of these films will be shown:

Bringing History and Heritage to the Masses

The illustrious Ron Stone has been instrumental in educating
the public about Texas history & heritage by
hosting the highly-regarded "Eyes of Texas" program,
which airs Saturday evenings at 6:30 PM on Channel 2,
Houston, and is syndicated to other TV stations around
the State. He is a member of the Channel 2 news staff,
currently serving as Anchorman of the 5PM and 10PM J
Monday-Friday newscasts. Mr. Stone has been a TV
anchorman in Houston for over 20 years. On his 20th
year in Houston, the Mayor and City Council issued a
proclamation naming a special day in his honor, in recognition
of his many contributions to the city. Among
his many affiliations, he is an Honorary Member of the
Sons of the Republic of Texas. He is currently writing a
book about Texas history. \C
