MANSION
The Texas Governor's Mansion, the
oldest executive residence still in use
west of the Mississippi and the fourth
oldest in the nation, is the subject of
a recent book by a former Texas governor

In addition to examining the history
of the famous house, the book also
contains biographical sketches of all
the governors and their first ladies.
More than 200 illustrations, as well
as 38 color plates, are included in

For the past several years the President
has proposed zero for NHPRC's
editing and records programs. Congressional
support of $3 million in
'83 and $4 million in '84 and '85 has
been due in large part to the advocacy
efforts of historians and archivists.
