state of Texas is changing fast,
and it is up to its citizens to
preserve the rich history that
makes it great. Photograph your
cities: the people, the buildings,
the festivals that make your town,
county, or region of Texas what it
is. The first annual Texas Historical
Foundation's Photograph
Texas encourages you to document
your surroundings today for
the historic merit they will have
tomorrow.
The competition is open to all
residents of Texas. This year color
and black and white images are
eligible as long as it is your original
work. (Black and white is
preferred simply for preservation
sake.)
Submit up to five slides for
$10.00 that represent your region:
North, South, East, West in Texas.
Forty images will be selected, 10
from each region in Texas, to form
a travelling exhibition.Tom Southall, juror for the
competition, has been the Curator
of Photographs at the Amon
Carter Museum in Fort Worth
since 1988. He studied, Art,
History of Art, and History of
Photography at St. Lawrence
University and at the University
of New Mexico. He has organized
numerous exhibitions and publications
including "Revealing
Territory: Photographs of the
Southwest" by Mark Klett (1992),
"Walker Evans and William
Christenberry: Of Time and Place"
(1990), and "Diane Arbus: Magazine
Work" (1984).
Awards:
$1,400.00 in cash prizes
Grand prize of at least $200.00.
First, Second, Third, Honorable
Mention Awards for each region
(North, South, East, West) will be
given at the discretion of juror.Calendar:
