Sex Texas Ranger Hall of Fame
and Museum, WacoIn 1968, private citizens and the City
of Waco assembled a prime 34-acre tract
of land for a museum to honor the Texas
Rangers and to serve as headquarters of
Texas Ranger Company F. In 1971 the
Texas Legislature created the Texas
Ranger Commemorative Commission to
serve until the end of 1973, the 150th
anniversary of the founding of the Texas
Rangers. The Commission raised funds
for the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame, which
was dedicated by Governor Briscoe in
1976 as the official state hall of fame for
the Texas Rangers. It honors Rangers
who died in the line of duty or led careers
of exemplary service. In 1997 the state
legislature further honored the efforts of
the Hall of Fame and Museum by designating
it as the official state repository
for Texas Ranger memorabilia. 1998 will
see the Hall of Fame and Museum celebrating
the 175th anniversary of the
founding of the Texas Rangers and the
30th anniversary of the founding of the
museum.
The Museum, Hall of Fame, and
Moody Texas Ranger Memorial Library
house collections concentrating on Texas
Ranger history. In the museum galleries
one can find artifacts related to the Texas
Rangers and the history of the American
West. The Hall of Fame presents portraits
and biographies of the Texas Ranger
inductees, exhibits, dioramas, and a slide
show. The Library holds books, archives,
and photographic collections related to
the history of the Rangers, Texas, the
American West, and popular culture.
Open seven days a week, the Texas
Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum is
located in Waco, off Interstate 35 at exit
