Most people wouldn't consider riding more than 600 miles
across Texas on the unforgiving seat of a bicycle as a good
way to become acquainted with their past. But that is exactly
what Mark Stine, director of The Texas Heritage Cycling
Experience (TTHCE), and a handful of fellow cyclists did
this past November. Following El Camino Real de los Tejas,
they were promoting the kind of unique and more authentic
experience that bicycle touring offers. Exploring historical
routes by cycling is the goal of TTHCE, and the group's preferred
mode of travel offers a rewarding, up-close experience
of history.HERITAGE WINTER 2006
