corrupt administration that is dally
being engulfed in tidal waves of
now scandals All is lost unless P
Daniel decides he had rather be
governor than president The shady
labors of 10 years of crooked
Shivercrat rule are wiped out unless
Daniel continues the giveaway
regime which has scandalized
the nation
Dut how come Giles is getting off
so easy What was the deal on
that Giles was sentenced to serve
72 years in the penitentiary but
he will serve only 14 months and
12 days Giles once said he was going
to tell all and name names but
before he got to tell anything the
deal was made So he got 12 six
year terms all to run concurrently
that is lie got only one sixyear
sentence He will get off for good
behavior in 14 months Now he
says that Shivers and Shcpperd
were not in on it that he alone did
the swindling But what was he going
to say at San Antonio before
the deal was made for him to
spend only 14 months in prison
A Beaumont colored citizen was
recently sentenced to five years in
prison for stealing a goose a Houston
woman was sentenced last
week to seven years In the pen for
stealing 18 from a purse And B
Giles gets off with 14 months
A Shivers still maintains that
there is no corruption in Austin
But he steers clear of the name of
Giles He says the insurance
scandals are peanuts even though
25 insurance companies have gone
under He still sticks by the insurance
commission he appointed
even though daily scandals recount
how those commissioners took trips
to Hawaii and Mexico as the
guests of insurance companies
Daily wc read of the favors they
took We read in the papers how
the friends of A Shivers in the
senate and the house got paid the
socalled legal fees
Then last week there was a photo
static copy of a letter from the former
chairman of the insurance commission
Chink Smith now a
member in good standing and defended
by Shivers to B Giles In
this letter Smith addressed Giles as
Friend In Crime The letter asked
Giles to process his application
for a land loan immediately if not
sooner The letter was written in
Longhand on A Shiverss stationery
The letter was stamped Dec 7
1949 Smith was then executive assistant
to A Shivers
And P Daniel was attorney general
of Texas
Remember now that was seven
years ago and here was Shivers
No 1 assistant in his office addressing
Giles as Friend In Crime
Does that mean that Smith knew
that what Giles was doing If Smith
knew did Shivers know
And who was attorney general of
Texas when Shivers No 1 assistant
was calling his old buddy B Giles
a friend in crime Why not
other than P Daniel And Mr Daniel
by law was a member of the vet
erans land board in 1D49 Thats
another thing Dont forget that P
Danicl was on that land board before
John Ben took over
The latest on Smith was uncovered
by the Houston Post the other
day It found out that Mr Smith
had obtained a G000 loan from
International Life Insurance Co
which rents quarters for the com
mission to the State What did Mr
Smith do with the G000 Why he
bought himself a nice piece of real
estate
Now the Enterprise and certain
other Shivercrat dailies in Texas
didnt print the copy of Chinks
letter but the Enterprise was on
the job for its buddy It printed a
picture of A Shivers on its front
page You got to hand it to the Enterprise
They stand up for a pal
even after he gets in the pen ns
witness their editorials on Giles
What does P Daniel say Why
like A Shivers he denies everything
Like the Enterprise hes
just ignoring the scandals All he

wants now is to bo governor of Texas
so he can finish the white wash
and cover up Daniel Is the only
man who can come in and takeover
where Shivers Shcpperd and
Giles not to mention Shocmako
left off
Would P Daniel clean house if
lie were governor Its not n quest
tlon if he would but If he could
The same money that kept Shivers
In Austin will try to put Daniel
there If Price isnt financed by the
Shivers gang he is not going to bo
financed But you know ns well as
anybody that they have already
told Daniel where hes going to get

the money to run on
If P Daniel couldnt discover
what Giles was doing during the
years he was on the veterans land
board as attorney general hes not
going to clean up nnythlng at Austin
Smith Shivers own secretary
knew in 1949 that Giles was a fcl
low in crime why didnt Shivers
and Daniel know
So heres what you come down to
Anybody that Shivers Shcpperd
and Giles endorses is not the man
to clean up Texas Its got to be
somebody who has fought all three
Its got to be somebody whos not
on speaking terms with A Shivers

LABOR DAY Jf
Tor hundreds of yean the
Christian Church has set aside
the six weeks before Easter and
has designated them the Lenten
cason
The purpose of this special sea
ion is to give Christians an opportunity to recall the consequences
of sin and the assurance of redemption It provides Christian churches
with an opportunity to tell the unchurched residents of their communities
of the central fact of the Christian faith the death of the
Son of God to atone for the sins of the world
The message of Lent is to Christianity what a spring is to a
watch what a motor is to a carTake the message of Christs life
and death out of the Christian religion and ou have only a worthless
hell
The message of Lent is still the message of Paul Christ died
for our tins according to the Scriptures
During these weeks thousands of churches throughout the nation
are bringing this fundamental Bible fact into sharp focus If you
have not yet found forgiveness for your sins through faith in Christ
we extend a hearty invitation to you to attend our Lenten services
