ITS A CHALLENGE
The snowstorm of last week forced many of us to stay
at home an uncommon length of time In our usual hustle
and bustle here and there most of us dont spend very much
time with our families and very little time alone These few
days should have proved something to us Were we bored
or did we have fun Can we enjoy ourselves with the people
we know best Can we live with ourselves by ourselves
People are naturally social creatures We like to be with
others but in this day of different crowds for each member
of the family we often miss a wonderful opportunity of know
ing people of different ages We are afraid to be alone yes
afraid because we do not know ourselves very well Its a
problem to us to learn to know our families and ourselves
better It a challenge

Life of Six Show Steers
And Two Owners Rough
In Big Snow of 56
By KINAN BURK
Broother No school My cheer
turned to fear when I realized that
my holiday was to be spent trying
to feed and care for six show steers
that could have taken care of themselves
In normal weather
Try as I might the poor fellows
the steers I mean spent last week
in a pen full of snow with cold icy
water to drink and the food not
much better Each morning I would
bundle up and start out with buckets
of hot water but after tletourlng
around several snow drifts I always
reached my destination with cold
water Instead
Life seemed bad for me but it
was easy compared with David
Finchs down at the Fort Worth Fat
Stock Show where he was taking
care of his steers and mine too The
show closed just as the snow set in
and David began the long ride back
to Tulia with five show steers
The trip took two days of hard
difficult driving Davids average
speed being twenty miles an hour
The steers wore fortunate in having
a place to stay in their first night
out in the storm At the GGG6 Ranch
near Gutherie David was able to
unload them where they were fed
and watered
The next morning the second leg
of the trip began along a oneway
nearly blocked road from Gutherie
to Tulia by way of Lubbock and
were stranded in snow drifts David
was able to make his way home with
little mishap
No that snowstorm vacation
The Hornets stretched their winning
streak to seven straight on
Feb 7 by defeating Lockney 7559
This keeps them on top of the con
ference race with a 7 won and 0
loss record In defeating Lockney
the Hornets scored their largest
point total of the current season
The Tulia cagers started slow and
scored only 13 points in the first
quarter but nevertheless were out
In front by a 5point margin 138
as the second quarter began In the
next eight minutes the Hornets were
outscorcd 1925 and were trailing by
a single point 3233 at halftime
Then the Hornets began hitting the
basket in the third quarter and gained
a 3point lead 5148 as the final
canto began The Hornets had their
best quarter in their final one scor
ing 14 points before Lockney got
back Into the scoring column and
by that time it was too late The
Hornets held on and gained their 1G
point victory 7559
Doug ODanicl was the leading
scorer of the night with 31 points
while Frizzle had 22 for Lockney
Dennis Love and Chris Ward had
17 and 10 points respectively They
were the only other Hornets scoring
in double figures
In the B game the Hornets played
their best game of the year defeating
the Shorthorns by a 6353
score The Hornets led all the way
in taking their fifth conference win
against two losses Darrell Nelson
led all scorers of this game with
21 points
