OUR NONPOLITICAL DICTATORS
We live in a day of government restriction nost
of winch is vitally necessary to our wellbeing The
strong theoretically must be prohibited from preying
upon the weak Someone must maintain order
among federal communications in erstate commerce
We must have pure food lows and the FBI
But we also have a tendency towards nongov
ernment semi official guardians who have entered
other phases of our lives
One such group is the American Medical Association
which considers itself a car with the
divine right to control the science of healing We
have no crows to pick with the thousonds of conscientious
medical doctors We owe them much We
patronize them when we are ill We do not disapprove
of their methods of treatment
But these same medical doctors would be the
first to admit that they do not know all the answers
People continue to die from cancer from strokes
from heart attacks
There is much work to be done before the many
ailments of mankind all are conquered
America has been built on the principle of independent
research Until science finds the answer
to any problem it should welcome the work of all
who are working on the solution As long as a problem
remains unsolved who is qualified to term research
either orthodox or unorthodox
Consider the conveniences we have today asa
result of unorthodox research
More power to the AMA as it seeks more knowledge
but meanwhile let s give the same opportunity
to others who also have their theories There
can be no justifiable monopoly in the treatment of
disease
Anothc protector of humanity is the ecclesiastical
organization which proposes to dictate
religion
The National Council of Churches at present is
attempting to ban all religious broadcasts and telecasts
except those approved by it It would stop the
networks and radio stations from selling time to independent
religious radio and television programs
Or Clifton E Moore director of Television for
the Los Angeles Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church
USA recently issued a release as TVRadio Coordinator
for the Los Angeles Church Federation identifying
the purchase of time for the broadcast of
religion with the commercialization or religion He
further stated that religious hucksters and religious
exploiters can only be eliminated from the
networks when they refuse to sell time to any religious
group He indicated that only the substantial
Protestant bodies should be given air time
thus creating a monopoly in the propagation of religionFurthermore on Sunday July 16 Dr Moore
bitterly attacked evangelical broadcasters as enemies
of the church and the community
He said in part These religious hucksters
do untold damage to the Church cause
Certainly there are religious radio programs
with which we do not agree but we dont have to
listen to them This is America We take what we
want and leave the rest We have liquor advertising
brought Intoour homes via television as well as
tobacco advertising and other advertising and programs
with which we are not concerned
But when we set up a system of censors where
is it going to begin and end
When we pass a law to exclude those religious
programs with which we don t agree from the air
lanes we must remember that we must necessarily
exclude some with whom ve do agree The same
law that would deny radio time to a minor religious
body or to a fanatical protestant group would also
affect Dr Theodore Epp Dr Chas E Fuller and
Billy Graham
All of which focuses attention on that part of
mar which is a little dictator He wants to protect
the public from that which he considers unorthodoxWe charge that this philosophy is unAmerican
whether it be the AAAA the NCC or the Communist
party
MAN HAS A way of setting himself up
as a judge as he evaluates things about him
Thats why a woman either approves or disapproves
of her neighbors hat or dress She
is never neutral either she likes or dislikes
it
Thats why a man passes judgment upon
the political leanings of another man
The thing to remember is this a person
must never give more than he can take If
a woman presumes to criticize her neighbors
hat then she must not be offended when her
own hat is criticized by her neighbor
Likewise if a man is going to express
his own political leanings then he must be
willing to let the other fellow do the same
THOUGHTS FO THURSDAY
EVER ONCE in a while we run on to a
person who makes no apologies for expressing
his political views Perhaps he actively
supports a candidate making no apologies
for his support but if his neighbor supports
a different candidate this fellow swells up
and is offended He wants to give more than
he is willing to take
Then there are those who can play a
joke on the other fellow but if the joke is
returned they arc offended
THOUGHTS FO THURSDAY
THE POLITICAL minded person who
isnt willing to grant the other fellow the
right to support his candidate has no business
taking part in politics Likewise the
person who cant take a joke played on him
self has no business playing a joke on the 10 years ago
other fellow
THOUGHTS FOR THURSDAY
MAN SHOULD have and express his
convictions he should militantly support his
convictions he should go out to win at any
legitimate cost but he should not pout like
an offended child when the other fellow
does the same
THOUGHTS FOR THURSDAY
WHEN DIFFERENCES arise between
men and they must feelings between them
can be much more harmonious if they will
look for those things on which they agree
rather than magnifying their differences
If we eliminate from our circle those
who disagree with us on segregation state
politics national politics local politics the
farm problem religion and those who dont
part their hair on the same side as we do
then we arent going to have many friends
left
Yet we see some people who attempt to
do just that
THOUGHTS FOR THURSDAY
A GOOD POLICY in dealing with men
is to look for points of agreement and to
avoid areas of disagreement Dont argue
politics or religion No one ever wins such
an argument
Those persons dont live who dont have
something in common
All people fundamentally honest can
get along with each other
THOUGHTS FOR THURSDAY
BUT WHAT DOES the average person
do He overlooks 99 points of agreement in
order to seek out one point of disagreement
And of course he always finds that for which
he is looking As a result all about us we
find people angry with those who fail to conform
to their private ideas concerning the
controversial things of life
THOUGHTS FOt THURSDAY
WE WOULD NEVER advocate compromise
on principle There are those of
whom we want no part because they are fundamentally
dishonest consequently there is
no common ground on which to meet Thats
why one cant do business with Bulganin
But a majority of human differences do
not come in this category They are a result
of mans littleness his pride his unwillingness
to admit error his determination to
have his own way

ARCHER FULLINGIM in The Kountzc
News If youve absolutely made up your
pinhead mind to vote the Republican ticket
in the presidential election Nov 6 dont
read any further It will just make you that
much more unhappy But if you havent
made up your bright mind then read on but
only
1 If you pay taxes
2 If you pay interest or carrying chargesThis weeks issue of the papers carries
a news story about the city selling sewer
bonds for 4212 rate of interest That
means that the city will pay that much interest
on 135000 in bonds That means that
the Republican party is going to cost the
taxpayers of Kountze an extra one and one
half per cent interest every year until the
bonds are paid off Because since the Republicans
got in Ike has raised the interest rate
five times Its now back where it was in
1932 when FDR went in Furthermore its
going up all the time Under the Democrats
3 per cent was a high rate of interest
More than that after the courthouse bonds
are sold the Republican party is going to be
a burden to Hardin county Why does Ike
keep on raising the interest rates The Republicans
that is the rich ones call it a free
market but the real reason is that the Republicans
have all the money borrowing
money that is They want to get rich and
richer through high interest rates Whos
paying The taxpayers Of course when the
Democrats get in theyll start cutting down
the interest rate but bonds have to be sold
and we cant wait until the Democrats get
back in to build the sewer system
Last time a lot of you voted for Ike
you swore up and down you were voting for
the man and not the Republican party
But now you know that the way is turned
out you were voting for the party and not
for Ike and that the Republican party is the
party of the grab greed and giveaway whether
its Texas or in Washington
You know now that the Republican party
controls Ike and not Ike the party if that
were not true Ike never would have run Ike
never would have given away Hells Canyon
damsite Ike never would have appointed
Warren to the supreme court so Tricky Dicky
Nixon could call him our great Republican
Chief Justice Earle Warren who gave us de
desegregation
You scattered but few Ikelikers said
back in 1952 that Ike was a Democrat running
on the Republican ticket Now I ask
you would any Democrat who ever lived appoint
a man like Earl Warren to the supreme
court Would any Democrat raise the interest
rate five times in four years when the
Democrats kept it below 3 per cent for 20
years Would any Democrat tolerate or put
up with our secretary of state John Foster
Dulles who occasionally returns to the United
States for a visit
In our two Democratic nominees Adlai
Stevenson and Estes Kefauuer we have
vigorous healthy men who know whats best
for America not just whats best for the corporations
in America Can you feature Ike
or Nixon either one having the guts to state
their convictions as do Stevenson and Kefau
ver Ike one day says that hed like to know
the superintendent of schools of Louisville
Ky better because that man campaigned for
school intregration and accomplished it this
year without any trouble at all Ike says hed
like to know how the man did it and pass
the word around but just the week before
what did Ike say He patted A Shivers on
the back for sending the Rangers to Mansfield
after Shivers had allowed 25 per cent
of the school population in Texas to intre
gate
One thing you can say for Adlai and
Estes They dont change their stories everyday
Its the same in Tennessee as it is in
Harlem
Back in 1952 one had to admit that Ike
that the Republicans and Ike were making
had it when he made his speeches even if
you were for Adlai and you had to admit
Adlai the goat for Trumans mistakes but

THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 27 1956
this time Adlai and Estes have it Everything
Adlai says hits the mark and nothing Ike
says seems to have any steel in it but how
can it when everyone knows that hes become
a parttime president who has turned
the office over to a general staff Adlai and
Estes are on the offensive this year and the
Republicans are going to have so much to
answer by the time they get started that
Nixon and Ike wont have time to call us
Democrats traitors The Republicans are on
the defensive and they are going to stay
there
Granted 98 per cent of the press is
pulling for the Republicans but please remember
that Yarborough would have beaten
Daniel if that latters gangsters hadnt stolen
the election and Daniel had 98 per cent
of the daily press backing him You cant
fool the people forever and they know that
its just not right to vote for Ike and his hat
chetman Nixon this time They compare Ike
with Adlai and Estes with Tricky Dicky
and they can see that for the good of the
country theyd better take Adlai and Estes
this time They wont want to trust the Republican
party for another four years with
Ike on a parttime schedule Dulles lousing
things up from Bagdad to Bombay to Berlin
and General Motors building up the cap
italists dollar and whittling yours down
Adlai and Estes have a real program for
the people the Democratic party program
which is always for the people Ike has prpv
ed again that the Republicans are good only
for the capitalists but no good for anybody
else Ikes prosperity Dont make me laugh
Ike and the Republicans are spending more
on defense in 1956 than the Democrats ever
spent Billions and billions And that defense
spending is the only thing thats keeping the
country from going under Ikes defense is
costing more than Trumans warP
Daniel is still singing his favorite hymn
of hate He said labor organizations were
trying to steal the state Democratic convention
at Fort Worth Of course he had in mind
the Democrats from 140 counties in Texas
which went for Yarborough in the runoff and
in which there is not a single labor union
only a majority of loyal Democrats Price
has been a Republican so long all Democrats
are just naturally villains to him So you see
how P Daniel intends to unify Texas Democrats
He intends to keep on calling them
labor organizers NAACPers liberals left
wingers pinks commies Of course that will
create harmony especially in the 148 counties
which fell for the worst lie you can tell on
a man the filthiest mud you can sling is to
imply that a voter is traitor to his country
just because he is a Democrat The lowest
type of mudslingings originated by Nixon
and kept up by Shivers and Daniel is to
reflect on a persons patriotism his Americanism
by calling him names associated
with Communism and that was the strategy
of the little man from Liberty
Last week Daniel begged A Shivers to
come to his rescue after ordering Allan to
stay out of the governors race in the runoff
Shivers dutifully unleashed a blast in favor
of his heir but insinuated that the little man
from Liberty has no guts Shivers appeared
to have only contempt for the junior senator
So you see what happened As soon as
the governors race was over P Daniel started
whining for Shivers to come to his rescue
and old Allan wadedin with the kind of
guts he acquired in dealing with such car
acters as Bascom Giles and members of his
insurance commission
The Texas daily newspapers buried the
story at the bottom of pages 23 36 42 and
the like and so most people did not read
P Daniels sworn statement that he spent
318000 in his campaign for governor compared
with 154490 spent by Ralph Yarborough
who did pretty good against all that
Daniel corporation money Yarboroughs
money came from individual Democrats in
