1 st County Pecan Show Exceeds Expectations
With 82 Entries, 4-H Food Show Successful

Two events proved to
be very successful last
weekend. The First An
nual Shackelford County
Pecan Show exceeded all
expectations with 82 en
tries in the show. The
most entries were in the
native divisions in which
26 entries competed for
honors. The judges re
commended that four en
tries in this division be
sent to the regional show
in San Angelo.
In the In shell division
we had entries from
Apache, Burkett, Coman
che, Choctaw, Delmas,
Mohawk, Mahan, Stuart,
Wichita and a number of
•variety seedlings. In the
shelling divisions (vari
(■ties which take 50 nuts
or more to make a pound),.

crack the pecans included

Snyder and Ron Snyder
The shelters included
Hugh Avres. T P. Finch
er, and Doug Morgan. We
also owe a great deal to
the judges, Mr, and Mrs.
Hav Barrett of Mid kit f
and Fred Schlutt lor their
assistance Friday and
'Saturday in classifying
pecans and organizing the
show.
The other successful
event was the Shackel
ford County 1 H Food
Show held Saturday after
noon at the home eeono
, mics lab m Albany High
School. Some of you
would be amazed at the
knowledge possessed by
these young girls about
nutrition, and their cook
ing talents, poise and per
sonality in dealing with
judges' questions l'hese
t;irls would not have this
opportunity if it weren't
for the volunteer leader
ship of our I H adult
leaders who carry on the
program.
The winners jn this
show and the pecan show
are listed elsewhere in
the paper and we would
like to congratulate all of
the participants and those
who helped make these
. two events a>success

The. Albany eighth
grade girls went scoreless
in the crucial third period
and lost to the Hawley
Bearcats 37 13 in junior
high action December 10
The Cubettes down bv
the score of 15 12 at half
time and managed only
one ooint in the second
half. Hawley, on the other
hand, ripped the nets for
21 points.

The highlight of the
meeting was the presen
tation of gifts to adult
leader Judy Patterson to
go into the newly expect
ed baby's nursery.
President Jerry Wil-
liams presided at the
meeting. The treasurer's
report was given by Kris
ty Beeves and the council
delegates' report by
Lydia Heller.
4 H'ers have hauled
about eight loads of green
bolls for a fund raising
project and this was dis
cussed during the busi
ness meeting also.
After cake and other
refreshments, the meet
ing was adjourned,
