Goings On At The
Crazy Hotel
by Mary Vanlandingham
We failed to get the name of
a new resident in last weeks
column. Mrs. Abbie George
Mood in from Gordon
Sunday. Mrs. George and I
have been Eastern Star
friends for many years. She
served as secretary of her
chapter at Gordon for over
20 years
Mrs. Jessie Short got moved
in to her room on sixth floor
Tuesday Dec. 16. Her friends
here are glad to see her again.
Mrs. Anna Propers' nieces
came down from Wichita
Falls on Tuesday of last week
and took her to Granbury
where they had a wonderful
lunch at "The Nutt House."
Mrs. Addie Gilder came
back to the hotel Monday
after spending a few days in
the home of her sister where
she has been recuperating
from a recent illness in PPG
Hospital.
I enjoyed a visit on Tuesday
night last week from' G.D.
and Aline Vanlandingham
from Weatherford. They had
been to Resort Lodge to visit
his mother Mrs. Annie
Vanlandingham. They report
her condition is about the
same.
The hall table on our floor
(4th) is really pretty with
decorations for the Christmas
season. Thanks to our maid
Sandi and the maid on the
third floor Lucille who
assisted S a n d i with the
decor. We all appreciate it. It
really gives an added
ingredient for the Christmas
spirit. Thanks.
Another chilling cold front
came in dry last Tuesday
night, followed by a worse
one Wednesday night. Maybe
the children will get to enjoy
a "White Christmas" We'd
appreciate any kind of
moisture we might get. Brrr!
The low in Mineral Wells
Thursday morning was 16
degrees according to
weathermen.
Artie Alexander just flew
off and left us but she sent a
beautiful Christmas card to
residents of the hotel and
management. She is spending
the holidays in Florida with
her son. Says she is having a
wonderful time.
Mrs. Grace Lionberger was
dismissed from Palo Pinto
General Hospital last week
and was transferred to
Leisure Lodge as she is not
able to come back here and
care for herself. We are sorry
to hear this and send our best
wishes to her, and hope that
her condition will soon be
much improved.
A small crowd attended the
movie "Snow Ball Express"
that was shown in the coffee
shop Teusday evening Dec. 16
at 7 p.m. Those attending
say they enjoyed the show.
Mrs. Anna B. Moores son,
Orville Moore, who lives near
San Antonio came for his
mother Dec. 13 and took her
home with him to spend the
holidays.
We the Senior Citizens of
Crazy Water Hotel want to
express our deepest
appreciation to the Mineral
Wells High School Z Club for
coming last Wednesday night
to have a Christmas party for
us. This club has about 60
members, and there were
about 20 girls who came and
brought us all kinds of goodies,
such as cookies of every kind*
Candy and gifts. All the
cookies were made by these
girls. Punch and eggnog was
also served with the cookies.
The group sang several
Christmas carols. At the close
they had the large group of
Senior Citizens present to
join in when they sang
"Silent night." They closed
out the program by singing
"We wish you a Merry
Christmas, and a Happy New
Year." Everyone present
enjoyed it all so much for it
was such a nice treat for us
all. The ones who failed to
come down for this party
really missed a treat. Its
things like this that helps one
to get the Christmas spirit.
It was great. Thanks again
girls and come see us anytime
we'll be glad to see you. Two
of them visited with me in
my room about 45 minutes
before time for the party to
start. They were my own
Deborah Pruitt daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Pruitt and Carrie
Messer daughter of Dr. and
Mrs. R.D. Messer.
Christmas cheer continued
to come to me the next
morning after the Z club
party in the lobby, when Mrs.
Cecil Levell brought me a
nice basket of every kind of
fruit, Cecil has always been
someone special in my life.
She is so good to everyone.
Thanks again Cecil and may
you and yours have the best
Christmas ever and New Year.
We want to say welcome to
a new neighbor moving in
next door. Mrs. Helen
Bowman has moved from
fifth floor, to the room
formerly occupied by Mrs.
Ethel McKinney. We are all
glad to have her but sorry we
had to lose Mrs. McKinney
who has to go to a nursing
home in town.
The parents of Jerry Hoyt,
Mr. and Mrs. G.D. Flesher
celebrated their 59th wedding
anniversary, on Saturday,
Dec. 20 at their home here in
town. Relatives present for
the celebration were Mr. and
Mrs. Pat Flesher from Iowa a
nephew and Jerry Hoyt of
the Crazy Hotel.
Fur man Terrell came from
Lake Leon Saturday morning
and picked up his brother Jim
Terrell who has been a
resident of hotel for many
years. Jim will be gone a
week through the holidays.
There are others leaving most
everyday to go away for the
holiday season. Mrs. Lena
Jack and Mrs. Mattabelle
Henderson left Sunday when
Mattabells daughter Mrs.
Jackie Napier came for them
to spend the holidays with
her at Lindale, near Tyler.
We were all sof sorry to hear
the news last "week of the
death of the son of Mrs. Jess
Norvell. Mr. and Mrs. Norvell
have been away from the
hotel for more than a
month visiting relatives at
Slaton. We extend our
deepest sympathy to her in
her time of sorrow. Her son
lived in Ft. Worth.
At first we thought it was
just a rumor floating around
that Barbara Knight desk
clerk Mon - Fri. (and very
efficient) was leaving us. But
she says its true - a lot of her
friends are against it, but she
is still planning to quit Jan.
1st we are going to miss her.
Also Tina Guinn part time
desk clerk has quit, we hated
to see her go also. Her
replacement is Billie
Dillingham. Best wishes to
these two as they leave us.
Mrs. W.H. (Maude) Watson
had all her children here for
lunch with her on Sunday.
They are Mr. and Mrs. James
Watson, of Crane, Edna St.
Clair, Mineral Wells and Eva
Grace Ledbetter who has just
recently moved back to
Mineral Wells from Anadarko,
Oklahoma.
Sorry to learn Sunday
morning that Mrs. Gil Benge
was taken to Palo Pinto Gen.
Hospital Saturday
asafternoon. We know what
its like to spend Christmas in
the hospital as that where I
spent last Christmas. We wish
for Mrs. Benge a complete
recovery soon.
I enjoyed a visit Sunday
afternoon when my brother
Elton Scudder and his wife
Leta Perrin came. We all
watched the Dallas Cowboys
and New York Jets game»
Merry Christmas and Happy
1976 to one and all.
