OWMAN L. HAWES,
president of one big
Fort Worth company
and secretary-treasurer
of another, is a Kentuckian.
He was born
at Minerva, Kentucky, August 18,
1866, of distinguished lineage, his
great-grandfather having been Lord I L
Brown of the English peerage. His I i '
father was John Brown Hawes, born
at Erie, Pennsylvania, May 8, 1823, ii?~
and his mother, Mary Haley, born
in Mason County, Kentucky, in 1840.
Mr. Hawes received his education _
in Lexington, Kentucky, where he
shaped himself for his later success- i
ful business career in Fort Worth.
His first business in this city was i
the handling of fuel. Later, he became
engaged in the lumber business
as president of the KelsayHawes
Company, which position he
still retains. A few years ago he
embarked in the wholesale grocery
business as secretary-treasurer of
the Hunt-Hawes Company, occupying
magnificent quarters on East
Seventh Street. In each of these
lines Mr. Hawes has prospered. He
was married December 4, 1903, and
has two sons, one six and the other (A
eight. Mr. Hawes makes one line .. v /
of business a hobby, that of lumber.
In addition to his other lumber interests
he is president of the L. C. ~ )B //
Malone Lumber Company, and is
heavily interested in Fort Worth ,//
has been singularly successful. Never
an office seeker, he has taken a keen
interest in politics and city affairs.
He is a member of the Elks and
Knights of Pythias.
