pie of chats and have agreed to
meet in Kansas City for the
reunion. I owe a long overdue
letter to my platoon Sgt. Harry
Kettler and I don't blame him
if he chews me out, but he'll
have to forgive me cause we
Hellcats are really brothers. I'm
sure you know that Dick or you
wouldn't be doing the fine job
you do. I'll close here and get
this to you and fill you in on
more happenings in the next
letter. Regards from Madeline
and I to all of B Co.
On the 22nd of August I
received a great phone call from
Richard Thomas. He is going
to the reunion in Kansas and
its his first one since the 1960's.
He told me that he had called
Tom Hand and they sure did a
lot of reminiscing and is sure
looking forward to the reunion
to meet him and other B Co.
members.
C COMPANY
Had an enjoyable phone call
from Charlie Reed on the 25 of
July and he said it looks like
he was going to make the reun-
ion this year. He asked for the
phone numbers of C Co. mem-
bers and I sent him what I had.
He inquired about George
Wright who lives about five
miles from me and also Charlie
Clayton our C.O., but I told him
I hadn't heard from either one.
However, right after we hung
up, I called George Wright and
told him about our conversation
and he feels a little better that
we will go and have lunch to-
gether. I'm looking forward to
that as it's been many, many
years since we've seen each
other.
D COMPANY
Winston Ball and Joh G.
Cook have paid their dues for
1989 and from Maurice Seller a
nice letter as follows: 'Sorry
that D Co. got the 'Sickie
Award' in June and I want to
tell my friend Don Ferguson
that the man with the helmet
in the picture he sent in the
June issue is not Luis Penter.
Penter is on the left side of me.
I am enclosing a picture taken
in Germany in 1945, Penter is
the fifth from the left. He was
a T4 in our mess crew. The
other picture was also taken
when we were in occupation in
Germany. I made a mistake in
my last letter, Bill Venema was
not sent to the 44th Tk. Bn. He
went over with the 714th and
was my platoon leader - is my
face red! I have enclosed a
photo of Bill and myself and I
don't have to tell you where
this was taken. I am also en-
closing a copy of our Christ-
mas menu of 1943 at Fort Jack-
son, S.C. and it also has a
roster of our company. If you
recall, we were slated to go to
the south pacific from Fort
Jackson, but plans were chang-
ed and we went back to the
12th A.D. while the 44th was
sent in our place. I still have
the original menu. Dick, I have
a lot of pictures and if it is O.K.
I will continue to send them
when I get the chance to do so.
HOW ABOUT THIS!! Two
months in a row without a
'Sickie'! Boy that is great! Lets
keep it up peoples cause we all
are interested in whats going
on. The reunion will be in his-
tory when you read this, so lets
start thinking about the Chap-
ter Meeings between now and
San Antonio as they too are a
barrel of fun. So, take care and
I'll end this with a little story.
A husband and wife drove
for miles in silence after a ter-
rible argument in which neither
would budge. The husband
pointed to a mule out in a pas-
ture. 'Relative of yours?' he
asked. 'Yes,' she replied. 'By
marriage.'
