John Payne, head football coach, graduated from
Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla., in 1951. He I
received his master's degree from Central State Univeristy
in Edmond, Okla.
Payne was an accomplished college athlete. He was a
football and track letterman at OSU, received all-conference
honors twice and was honorable mention all-America. In
1954 he was selected to play in the Blue-Gray game.
He had extensive experience in training and coaching of p i
