Campus Life
O:r 0 ne of the most irritating of my petty annoyances
is walking out of the Don Morris building -
usually to meet a looming deadline - often carrying
a freshly printed piece of work in my hand, and
turning the corer of the building only to be met with
an enthusiastic gust of West Texas wind that laughs at
777 ~the unattractive and unprofessional crease it leaves in
my paper.
One of the most refreshing of my simple pleasures
is walking outside to my car at the end of the day to
greet the same West Texas wind that lifts my hair off of
my neck and billows my skirt and makes me feel at one
with its freedom.
In the same way that the windows and the doors
and the out of doors of this university allow the wind to
disseminate through every crevice of this campus, so do
the students. Whether it's in a chemistry lab, a Tuesday
Night Devotional, under a mesquite tree or during the
mass mail room rush at Chapel, students are ever present
and ever changing.
In the same way that the wind is both irritating and
refreshing, students hurt each other and inspire each
other. One day a human instinct damages a heart, the
next day Godly spirit feeds a soul.
That's Life.
And in the midst of the planning of
new activities and the upkeep of old, it's
all fueled for the purpose of the people.
Foundations are laid, relationships are
built, grudges are forgiven, and in the
end most remember hearts instead of
hurts.
At ACU, Welcome Week begins
this process, and graduation ends it -
and the next year a fresh breeze blows in
again to renew the cycle.
