84th Lectureship tries to attract students
T he 84th annual Bible Lectureship was held
Feb. 17-20 with the theme "Recovering
Spirituality."
Generally most students see Lectureship as a time
away from classes and a time to recover from the
prior week's event-Sing Song. This year Lectureship
had an increase in the number students who
attended the numerous lectures on campus.
The Office of Ministry Events, located in the
College of Biblical Studies, attempted to gradually
encourage more students to go and take advantage of
the Lectureship events.
"We have been talking to the teachers of the
College of Biblical Studies to work with them to
incorporate lectureship into their classes," said Dr.
Mark Love, director of Ministry Events. "That way
when the students get the week off, they have to
make up the hours attending any of the numerous
events."
With the amount of people descending onto campus
during lectureship, it is not surprising to find
students with mixed emotions even while Lectureship
attendance averages in the thousands.
"I think that most students see lectureship as a
hassle - they have to look longer for parking, classes
get rescheduled and they might have to write
essays to make up for missed classes," said Lee
Nault, senior agricultural business major from
Abilene. "We as a student body need to embrace to
hear and learn from all the diverse speakers,"
With diverse topics ranging from "Our World,
post-Sept. 11" to "Remembering to Keep the Sabbath
Holy," there had to be a subject matter that interested
almost any student.
As an alumnus, Love experienced what it was like
to be in the students' place during lectureship and
drew from that experience when he thought about
Lectureship activities.Young and old watch and listen to the special keynote speakers that

lectureships but to have our Lectureship participants
meet our students and interact with them," Love
said. "It will benefit you spiritually, and you won't be
able to take advantage of it later in life like you can
now,"
With Love's enthusiasm and attitude towards a
student friendly Lectureship, it will not be an event
to be missed in the coming years-Rafael Aguilera
