and mother of the two Gilliam children was the second wife. Her husband was a doctor in
Weimer, Colorado Co., Tex. No. issue.
III. Martha Gilliam, b. ca. 1835 in Prince Edward Co., Va., is somewhat of a
mystery. No Texas records have so far been found. She either died relatively young or else
married in Missouri before they came to Texas. The marriage records of Chariton Co., Mo.
for the period of time in which she probably married are unfortunately missing.
IV. Thomas H. Gilliam, b. ca 1837 in Prince Edward Co., VA. He came to Texas
with his father and (according to probate records) evidently took over some of his father's
property. He married Belle Hall, evidently they were childless. In 1898, they moved to Tuxpan
Co., State of Vera Cruz, Mex.
V. Judith Francis Gilliam, b. April 14, 1839 in Prince Edward Co., Va. Died Sept.
30, 1884. She was the second wife of Dr. Thomas Chappell Cook and had two children. By
Cook's first marriage, he had two other children. Children of Judith's marriage to Dr. Cook
included:
A. Ashbel Cook, b. Dec. 8, 1872, in Fayette Co., Tex. He married Rachel. They had
three children.
1. Frances "Fanny" Cook, b. Oct. 1896, married Childs. Lived for some time in
Mineral Wells, Tex. No further information.
2. Leonard Wood Cook, b. July 1898. Lived at Freeport, Tex. at one time. No further
information.
3. Charles Gilliam Cook, probably born in Colorado Co., Tex. in the very early
1900's. As a young man lived in San Antonio, Tex. No further information.
VI. John W. Gilliam, Jr., b. ca 1842 in Prince Edward Co., Va. He helped take over
his father's property when he died. In 1870 he was in Fayette Co., Tex. No further
information.
VII. Susan Madison Gilliam, b. ca. 1846 in Chariton Co., Mo., in Chariton Co., Mo.
She married Thomas Carter on March 26, 1868. Carter died in 1873. Probate record state that
they were children. No further record of her.
Note:
The author has many biblical, probate, deeds, census, obituary, and other records as
proof of the foregoing material. He has arbitrarily cut off the families with the generation that
would be great-great grandchildren of John Woodson and Susan Venable Gilliam, but more
information is available on some of these families if a particular need exists.
Corrections and/or additions to this material are welcomed -- especially any errors in
the above so that they can be corrected. In fact, any supplementary information on these
families would be highly desired.
