PRESIDENT' SPAGE
Dear TSGS Members, Partner Societies and Friends,
The Annual Conference at Wichita Falls was grand! If you missed it, I am sorry. We had a room
full of vendors with books and materials that made you wish you had won the lottery. The speakers
were great and I, for one, learned some new things to use in my research.
I especially want to thank the North Texas Genealogical and Historical Society for their help
with the conference. They made my job so much easier but do all the local jobs. Beverly Wyatt,
President, helped in so many ways that I cannot list them. Thanks to all of you.
The Annual Conference for 2001 will be held in Tyler and we are looking to have a good time
there. Their incoming president, Scott Fitzgerald, and this year's president, June Everheart, came
to the conference to gather ideas. TSGS was pleased that they came and will be looking forward to
working with them. Partner Societies should remember that they are welcome to make proposals for
future conferences.
I am happy that Sue Wilkinson of Wills Point has agreed to serve as representative for District
7. She has served this district in the past and we are happy to have her back. Know she will do a
good job. TSGS is looking for representatives for Districts 5 and 6. If you would be willing to serve,
please contact me. You will have a great board to work with!
TSGS presented Wanda Donaldson a Fellowship Award for all her hard work on the First
Families project. She has worked five years and probably worn out twelve postmen collecting
materials for the many certificates issued to people who are descendants of the "First Families" of
early Texas. The first book of 2400 certificates has been published and was for sale at the
conference. We hope to have the second book sometime soon. Thanks, Wanda, for all your work and
you are very deserving of the Fellowship Award.
The TSGS Board voted at the board meeting on Thursday, Nov. 9th, to increase the money for
the Writing Awards for 2001. Watch for details in the March issue, 2001. This is to encourage
more members to enter their books and publications.
TSGS also voted for a new award for Partner Societies WEB PAGES in 2001. More on that in
March. This will be exciting as more and more Societies are putting up a Web Page. This is only for
"Partner Societies" so if you are not one, better join by January 1, 2001.
THIS IS MY CHANCE TO REMIND YOU THAT YOUR 2001 MEMBERSHIP DUES ARE DUE! BE
SURE TO SEND IN YOUR CHECK TODAY.
I want to thank all the officers for their work in 2000 and their help to me. It takes a year to
learn this job and I could not have done it with out your help. Now, on to another good year. I hope
we continue to grow and offer help to our Partner Societies.
