Vitar Carrasco and Guadalupe Carrasco were sister and
brother who lived in Redford, Texas all their lifanter the
jpO--tion of their parents. Their father was Metr*iftrrasco,
A#L their mother was Cecilia Acosta Carrasco. Vitar ana
Guadalupe had two sisters and four brothers who also lived in
Redford.
The parents of Vitar and Guadalupe happened to live in
Redford because the Government gave them land, 160 acres of
mesquite land, in the year 1830. Along with Cecilia and Mateo
came five more families to whom the Government gave land, eeor
These families were: Toribio Acosta, Apolinar Pefia, Ceferino
Madrid, Mateo Carrasco, Secundino Lujan, and Facund: Acosta.
If the man was married, he was given 160 acres of land, but if
he was not married, he was given 80 acres. These families came
to Redford in the year 1830, the same year they received the
land.2
Immediately, tne families begin to clear up the land for
their farms, and to make a canal in order to irrigate the land.
The canal took them many years to finish it, because they had
to bring the water from the river so the canal was very long
and deep, and in those times they didn't have any machinery to
