MEN'S SOCCER
Young Cowboys Finish 10-6-1; Heger Hired
Hardin-Simmons men's soccer team started the season with just two starting seniors and the youth
showed up in a season that ended with 10-6-1 record.
The season started with a loss to the University of the South, but the Cowboy team came back to win
over Edgewood in Hardin-Simmons' opening weekend in Sewanee, Tennessee. With two more wins over the
University of Dallas and Austin College, the Cowboys were off to a 3-1 start. Returnees Adrian Romero,
James Burton, and Trevor Elza and newcomer Chris Carroll had all scored one goal each for the Cowboys,
while Scott Ballard and Burton had one assist each.
The Cowboys suffered losses against top-ranked Trinity and Southwestern in Georgetown on
September 13th and 14th. The Cowboys quickly bounced back by winning their conference opener 1-0 over
McMurry.
Texas Lutheran seemed to be a stumbling block for the Cowboys. On September 28th and October
12th, Hardin-Simmons had a chance to move into first place with a win in each game and came up on the
short end in both games. The Cowboys only chance for the ASC Conference Tournament would come down to their final game
against McMurry on November 2nd. Hardin-Simmons needed a tie or to win to gain one of four berths to the
ASC Tournament. But on the emotionally charged day at
August McMurry in front of a packed crowd, the Cowboys could
