SELLING
POLICY
Certain advertising in this magazine con-
tains offers of sales plans for individual or
unit use It must be clearly understood that
Scout unit use of these plans to earn money
must first be cleared with the unit's local
council and chartered organization Ask for
BSA Form No 4427, from your council.
The selling of any product must be done
on its own merits The official uniforms are
intended primarily for use in connection with
the activities of the Scouting movement, but
their use may be authorized by local councils
under conditions and for purposes not in-
consistent with the principles of Scouting
and the Scouting program No one, unless
authorized by the National Council Execu-
tive Board, may sign a contract of a com-
mercial character involving the Boy Scouts
of America or any chartered unit of the Boy
Scouts of America or for use of any of our
insignia or terminology with the product
The products offered in these advertise-
ments have been examined by Scouting
magazine, and to the best of our knowledge
their value is commensurate with the selling
price suggested All advertisers in this sec-
tion are familiar with the official policies of
the Boy Scouts of America and have in-
dicated their wilingness to abide by them
Any Scouter receiving information or litera-
ture that is in conflict with our policies
should immediately notify Scouting

Family Talk (from page 18)
Help a burned-out family, or other home-
less family, with food, clothing, furniture,
or cash donations... Clean up a vacant lot
as a play area, or plant flowers in it...
Distribute community-related posters.
We Can't Get Started!
If nobody seems to have much to talk
about sometimes, try an idea stimulator.
Here are some samples: Read or summa-
rize a news story about an actual family
situation, and ask. "How would we handle
that?".. .Take turns reporting "the fun-
niest thing I saw (or heard or did) all
week."... "I've got a problem. Advice,
please.".. .Success time: "I got an A in
Spelling... started my paper route...
found a dollar.. .rescued a cat.. .our
team won the game."... How I shared
with someone this week. (Award a gold
star, an apple, or?)
Try a fun game to stimulate participa-
tion. There are lots of them—this one, for
instance: Ask everybody to draw the per-
son on his or her right. Now do it again—
with the lights out... Try a "tell the truth"
time: I goofed this week by... My biggest
bad habit is (missing the school bus...
hogging the telephone... too much televi-
sion. . .yelling at Emily.) Discuss what
might be done about it.
For a constant supply of Sharetime
project and discussion ideas, encourage
everybody to write her suggestions on the
family bulletin board and include them in
the agenda.
It's Your Move
So try Sharetime. It can help your fam-
ily attack problems, get better ac-
quainted, teach important ethical values,
learn new skills, spend meaningful time
together, and introduce younger
members to the ways of the democracy in
which they will spend the rest of their
lives.
And it's free! ■
