Funeral services for lames
Alexander Herod, 67, of
Terrell were held'Aug. 4,2011,
at the Allen Funeral Home
Chapel. Interment followed at
Dallas Fort Worth National
. Cemetery.
Pastor Randy Byrd officiat-
ed.
Mr. Herod died Aug. 1 in
Dallas.
He was born April 27, 1944,
in McKinney, to the late Robert
Stafford Herod and Florence
Alyne Hamilton Herod. He
married Virginia Ann Morgan
June 10, 1966, in Garland. He
served in the U.S. Navy during
the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife,
Virginia Herod of Terrell;
daughter, Christie Buquei of
Davenport, Fla.; son, Jeffrey
Herod of Tifton, Ga.; brothers,
Robert Herod of Mesquite and
Anthony Herod of Myrtle,
Miss.; sisters, Shelia Warren of
Wylie, Psyche Meza of Celeste
and Bobbie Summers of Wylie;
12 grandchildren and one
great-grandchild. He was pre-
ceded in death by his parents,
Robert and Florence Herod and
sister, Kyla Albert.
Arrangements were under
the direction of Allen Funeral
Home of Wylie.

Worth M. Speed
Funeral services for Col. Worth
M. Speed, 89, of Wylie were held
July 26, 2011, at Campbell Road
Church of Christ
in
at
Garland.
National
Interment followed
Cemetery.
Col. Speed died July 20.
He was born July 23, 1921, in
Dallas.
He spent his childhood in Oak
Cliff, graduating from Sunset High
School. July 2, 1940, he enlisted in
the U.S. Army Air Corp and served his country for 33 years.
Col. Speed was a pilot in WWII, flying 67 missions, and a
POW in WWII, returning home to marry the girl of his
dreams, Mary Lou Carrell. He served in Korea and on Gen.
Westmoreland's staff in Vietnam. His family said he was "a
hero to all who knew him."
After retirement from the USAF, he worked as a defense
contractor for Rockwell Collins and, upon retirement from
Rockwell, he moved to Wylie. Col. and Mrs. Speed shared 66
years together as man and wife and. according to their family,
touched many lives along the way.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Carrell Speed;
daughters, Suzanne Powers and her husband Mike and Joanne
Miller and her husband Ron; four granddaughters, Dana
Gilbert and her husband Russell, Claudine Humphries and her
husband Miles, Regina Harding and her husband Mitch and
Amy McKiddy and her husband Josh; one grandson, Mike
Powers Jr; and 15 great-grandchildren "whom he loved and
adored," his family said.
"He taught us all by his example of his love for his Lord
and Savior, his undying love for his family and loyalty to his
country. He was a man of honor, strength, courage and com-
passion for others," they said.
Arrangements were under the direction of Allen Funeral
Home of Wylie.

Patricia Harper
Funeral services for Patricia
Harper were held Aug. 8,2011, at
Allen Funeral Home in Wylie.
Interment followed at the National
Memorial in Dallas.
Mrs. Harper married "the love
of her life" Roger Dale Harper on
June 13, 1998. She worked at
Metroplex Bindry until ber hus-
band became ill. She then stayed
home and cared for him.
According to her family, "she
loved to drink Blue beers, listen to
Patsy Cline and Cher, garden and
sew and was an amazing cook. In
the summers she cared for her
grandchildren." She was a breast
cancer survivor.
She is survived by her brothers,
Doug Vaugn and Fred Vaugn; sis-
ter, Desmond Samples; children,
Denise Ferguseon and her husband
Les of Huntington, W.V., and their
children Les, Shannon, Courtnie,
Hannah, Robert and their children
Makayden, Lilli, Zayna, Makylah
and Bentley; Dennis Byrd and his
wife Kristie of Austin and their
children, Coleton and Adrian;
stepdaughter, Jeanna Harper
Stubbart and her husband Eddy of
Red Oak, their child Will and his
children Kaylee Joe and Kayden;
and stepson Arty Harper of Irving.
She was preceded in death by
her parents Mr. and Mrs. Douglas
Vaugn.

McKinney of Greenville.
The wedding is set for Sept. 10.
The bride-to-be is a 2009 graduate of Texas A&M-
Commerce and is employed by Caddo Mills ISD. The groom-
elect is a 2011 graduate of Texas A&M-Commerce and is
employed by Strayhorn Air & Heat and Moore & Sons Electric.
