Boost all the enterprises that are for the pood of Brownwood.
The people who do this are the ones who make a town worth
living in.
The Waco Hamilton and Brownwood railway surveyors will
get into Brownwoj 1 in time to a-sist in the bii? demonstrations
at the fair net w?ek.
It is all right to enjoy the circus if you wish to but do not
forget when you go home to te'l every one about the big fair to
be held in Brown wool nex: week.
The Dallas Fair ill soon be a thing of the pa3t but the
great event for thi i secti n of Texas is ye: to co ne off. That
is the ureat fair to be held at Brownwood r.eu week.
the season is the most favorable for fall planting which this
country has had for many years. Perhaos after all the short
cotton crop may have been intended to team our people a lesson
about the necessity of diversification.
O ir neighbors from ali the surroundhtf country will be in
Brownwool next week attending the fair which is intended not
only to help Brownwood but all the country round-a-bout.
When they come giw them a heart welcome an 1 help to make
them feel at home.
There is no ue to talk iboot dull times in this country when
the people throng about the entrance to a snide tent h )W eiger t)
blowin their silver as theyldid in Brownwood last night and as they
usually do at every opportunity. People who have money to spend
at the average traveling tent sh w have money to throw at the
bird.
The encouraging news comes from Waco that there is strong
possibility that as soon as the surveys are made right of way
obtained and other preliminaries arranged the money will pro-
bably be ready to build the road from Waco to Brownwood"! It
is going to be hard to keep Brownwood from being a railroad
center.
Luther Manship in private conversation last night paid the
town and the andience a high compliment when he said: "I ar-
rived in youryty after dark tonigjit and I have had no Jinfor-
mation as to the.place but it is easy to see that Brownwood is a
college town and that itsjpeople are a highly.e iucated intellectual
people.'' Mansh'ip hasjtraveled all over ' the country and is a
good judge of people.
Bailey has about busted a banquet at San Antonio. Governor
Campbell is to open the fair down there. Citizens planned to
give him a banquet. Bailey men said Bailey must be invited.
Anti-Bailey men said ne must not for he always forgets all rules
of propriety and says hard things about other guests. Bailey
men will not help pay bills unless Bailey is invited ; anti-Bailey
will not help if he is invited. So there the matter stood at last
reports.
The importance of Brownwood is shown in the fact that when
the Forepaugh and Sells circus found that the4date at Dublin co
break the jump between Fort Worth and Brownwood had to be
cancelled because of inability to get their circus trains over the
Frisco road ard also found that the Frisco could not handle them
from Fort Worth direct here the managers Were determined to
get here even though they had to come all the way by Temple to
do so. and will have to double track t' get back again on a main
line of road.
THE LIBRARY ENTERTAINMENTS. '
The opening 01 the Library Lyceum course in Brownwood
has come to be an important event in the history of the city one
that is eagerly looked forward to by a great many citizens from
the close of one season to the beginning of another. Tnis course
presents every season the very best class of platform entertain-
ments in this country and regular patrons have come to expect
a treat every tim e an event is announced under that auspices.
A glance at the audience last night showed clearly the effect of
persistant effort in appealing to the highest class of intelliuence in
these entertainments. A more representative intellectuality could
hardly assemble anywhere a more appreciative gathering of the
really excellent and helpful in entertainmert could hardly be
found in any city. The Bulletin takes occasion again to com-
mend the wisdom of the citizens of Brownwood in the establish-
ment and maintenance of such an institution as the Carnegie
Library which in so many ways has become such a recognized
aid to every class of citizens. It ought to be the case that a mere
announcement of an event of any nature at the library would
guarantee a house entirely proportionate to the character of en-
tertainment presented.
Says Scare is Silly.
Felix Jackson of Valesco is in
the city for a few days. In
speaking of the financial scare
Mr. Jackson who is recognized
as a financier or more than or-
dinary ability stated that it was
the most foolish thing that the
public had been guilty of in
many years. He said that the
banks were ali on the best foot-
ing that had been known in
many years and that the rush of
the depositors simply made it
embarrassing on the bankers
when there is absolutely no
cause whatever for it.
He said that the Standard Oil
Interest and the Heinze Copper
interests were fighting each
other and that it had shook the
stock market but that the pros-
perity of the country was too
great for the flurry to affect the
people. He thinks that the fool-
ish scare will be over within a
few days.
Luther Manship.
A large audience greeted Luth-
er Sfanship at the librarv last
night. The gathering was a most
representative boe and the aiidi-
fare uiis ih'lightfil. Manship is
an entertainer without a superior.
He knows people and how t cap-
ture them. When he eatehea
them he holds them until he gets
ready to ijuit. While there have
beet! many great entertainers on
i the library platform none have
