Wylie Football Team
Will Sport New
Uniforms This Fall
The members of the Wylie
High School football team should
be very proud when they prance
onto the field for the first game
this coming footboll season be-
cause they will be suited up in
brand now football uniforms
which have just recently been
purchased and delivered to the
Athletic Department.
The School Board authorized
the expenditure of over $1200.00
for the complete uniform, exclud-
ing shoes, for twenty-two mem-
bers of the squad. Included in the
uniforms will be new pants, jer-
seys, headgears, shoulder pads
and thigh pads which are made
of the very best material and con-
structed to insure the maximum
safety of each player on the field.
Also purchased along with the
uniforms were a new Tackle
Dummy, a Blocking Dummy and
an Infra Red Lamp to be used
in treating sore mucl.es and pulled
tendons which may be incurred
by members of the team.

Surprise Party Held
For Mrs. J. W. Akin
This Past Sunday
This past Sunday Mrs. J. W.
Akin was surprised with a birth-
day dinner at her home. She re-
turned home from church to find
the table laden with food.
Those who were present were:
Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Akin. Paula
and Jimmie, Mr. and Mrs. Carrol
Webb and John Carrol, Mr. and
Mrs. Maurice Montgomery and
Gayle, Miss Sue Akin and Mr.
and' Mrs. J. VV. Akin,
She received many nice gifts
and wishes for many more happy
birthdays.

McQuay-Harris Rites
Read At Home Of
Mrs. Carl Smith

they appeared just after their af-
ternoon marriage ceremonies held
at the home of Mr. Harris' sister,
Mrs. Carl Smith, here in Wylie
on Saturday July 17th. Mrs1. Har-
ris was Miss Shirley LaQuay be-
fore her marriage, and is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack
LaQuay, who reside on Highway
78 just 2 miles east of Wylie. Mr.
Harris is the son of Mr. and Mi s.
V. L. Harris of the Cottonwood
Comunity.
Both the bride and groom at-
tended school in the public
.schools of Wylie where Mr. Har-
ris was one of the recent gradu-
ates of the '48 Senior Class. He
is now engaged in aiding his fa-
ther operate their farm which is
located in the Cottonwood Com-
munity. They will make their
home temporarily with Mr. and
Mrs. Harris.
The marriage ceremonies were
performed by the Rev. A. A.
Burnett, pastor of the First Bap-
tist Church in Wylie.
The News joins all their fi iends
in wishing for them every happi-
ness and success in life.

At this meeting held this past July 26th, there were 18
members and S guests present. The guests were Mrs. J. D. Wil-
son of Garland, Mrs. W. P. McCoy of Dallas, Mrs. McCauzoy of
Dallas, Mrs. R. Eubanks, Mrs. Marvin Moore and Mrs. C. W.
Callan of Lavon and Mrs. Bill Phillips of Dalllas.
This club was formed some time ago to do honor each month
to those members whose birthdays fell during some particular
month 'of the year. They present each other with some very
beautiful hand made towels each month as birthday presents.
During this month of August, Mrs. Grace Williams and Mrs.
Ike Emerson will entertain Mrs. Johnnie Forder and Mrs. John-
nie Justiss whose birthdays will come during that month.

that at some time during the

burglars visited in his home lo-
cated east of Wylie and earned

At 7:45 p. m. young people will

which time the Rev. Glendell

Jones is a representative of the
Town and Country Commission
of the Conference Board of Chris-
tian Education.
The local church is fortunate
in securing these two speakers
for this Sunday, and the people

by the burglars. Ho report? that
there may be other items missing,
but that they have missed the
above mentioned items at this
time.
Skinner said he could do with-
out his shirts which they took,
and possibly the radio, but that
they broke his heart when they
took away his fishing tackle. Now
he will have to use just the or-
dinary cane pole and worm when
ho fishes; he'll jv ibably bring
back better results anyway.

Remodeling Begins
On Building In
City Of Wylie
Mr. R. J. Hall, recent purchaser
of the Glenn Daniels building lo-
cated in the center of the busi-
ness district of Wylie, has now
begun remodeling work on tiie
front of the store. Ho reports
that the building will have a
modern red glass front and that
as soon as the exterior is com-
pleted, renovation and remodel-
ing of the interior will begin, He
is quiet as to what he has in
mind to occupy the building, but
has promised that it will offer to

The North Te xas Firemen's As-
sociation will hold its annual meet
in the city of McKinney on Aug
ust 10th at 7 o'clock p. m. and
representative firemen from the
20 member towns including Wylie
will be present at the meeting.
As attractions in the proceed-
ings. there will be a bumper hook-
up race at 7 o'clock p. m. and a
large banquet at 8 o'clock. Busi-
ness and entertainment will be
gin at 8:45 and last until 12.

Local Boy Injured
When He Fall's
From Moving Auto
Charles Williams, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Farrell Williams of Wy-
lie, was injured painfully, but not
seriously, this past Thursday
morning when he fell from the
automobile in which he and a
group of boys were riding on their
way to Spring Creek to go swim-
ming. The accident oceured about
11:00 a. m. on the Naman School
Road near Garland when Charles
lost his swimming suit out of the
car and hung out the side to
see where it had fallen. The ear
i^oor came open and threw him
cut onto the concrete pavement.
He did not regain consciousness
until he was brought too in the
office of Dr. Ryan in Garland.
Others in the party were Alva
Dean Haugh, Troy Maynr rd, Billy
aylor, Haymond Snow Jr., and
Jackie Stewart. They had the
presence of mind to get him to
doctor as quickly as possible.
Charles said the only thing that Mr. C. M. Matney

Vacation I rip
Mr. C. M. Matney of Wylie has
just returned from a whirl wind
vacation trip of about five or
six days during which he and his
son, Charles of McKinney, drove
through eleven states and saw
much scenery and country. They
left Wylie on Thursday morning
July 22nd and drove to Arkansas,
then into Kentucky. Tennessee,
Virginia. North Carolina, Alaba-
Georgia, West Virginia, Ohio,
ma, Mississippi, Louisiana and
other stat's. He reports that they
