Seeks Re-Election
As Commissioner
I wish to take this means of
announcing my candidacy for re-
elcction Precinct 2 of Collin Coun-
ty. I want to thank all the people
in Precinct 2 for their kindly co-
operation I have received during
my administration as their com-
missioner. I want to continually
serve them to the best of my
ability in the future, and I would
appreciate another term in this
office.
I ttiink the people in Precinct
2 would like to know where their
I
j money is spent. 1 have a few
figures that 1 will give you ori
; 11 iiit subject. The total of Collin
County's expenditures is $429,-
209.79. Of this sum the following
amounts were spent:
Jury fund $5,045.23; General
County Fund $91,706.62; Road and
Bridge General $254,523.77; Of-
ficers Salaries $77,934.17; Of this
amount Precinct 2, received out
of the road and bridge fund $44,-
075.57. This was spent in Precinct
| 2 as evenly over the precinct as
I knew how to spend it. I tried
! to show no favors In distri-
j buting it over the precinct.
I would appreciate it if the
people in Precinct 2 would let
me know when there is a bridge
out or anything that needs to
be done, and I will do my best
to see to it as quickly as pos-
sible. If at any time in the fut-
ure that you wish to talk to me
about roads, I will be glad to
meet a committee any time, any
place in my precinct.
I wish to continue on as your
commipsioner. If you think I
am deserving. I would appreciate
your vote and influence very
much. Thanking you in advance,

In New High School
The Wylie PTA has recently
purchased a Steinway upright
piano for the Birmingham High
School Auditorium. The instru-
ment was greatly needed for use
in the new music program in-
augurated in the schools this
year.
Three Hundred and ten dollars
of the purchase price of the
piano was furnished by the PTA
from the profit on the Birming-
ham appreciation banquet. The
balance of the account was paid
by the PTA from other activities
sponsored since September.

Is Telephone Service A Necessity?
If So Why Is It ' axed Along With Luxuries?
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
The wiv time exei; e taxes were put on in Wartime.

Discourage Business
The following- schedule of Federal Excise Taxes have
been in effect since May 1, 1944:
Amusements
Cosmetics and toilet preparations
Furs and fur articles
Jewelry
Local telephone service
Long distance calls 20 cents or under
Long- distance calls 25 cents or over

Travel tickets
While it is understandable that rates of tax were
necessary to finance the war, it is nevertheless difficult
to understand why a social and business necessity, such
as telephone service, should continue to be taxed as a
luxury.
Remember the customer pays the tax; the Tele-
phone Company cnlu collects it and sends it in to the
Tax Collector.
Congress is now considering reducing some excise
taxes. Let's hope they will eliminate excise taxes en-
tirely irom those things that are necessities.
