He had the following to say in
connection with his political be-
liefs:
I am now taking this means of
publicly announcing my candi-
dacy for Congress from this the
Fourth Congregational District. I
shall always appreciate the
wholehearted support, given my
candidacy four years ago, by
more than 18,000 voters in this
District. The confidence of these
loyal supporters in that campaign,
despite the conditions under
which this country was then in-
volved, will always constitute a
challenge to me and to my ability.
I invite their continued loyalty
and assistance in this campaign.
I am also grateful for the many
pledges of support from all over
this District from those who did
not see fit to support my candi-
dacy for this office in 1944. With
the help of all my friends and
who believe in the principles of
Government, which shall form
the basis of my campaign, we can
not fail in this endeavor.

MAYTAG I RONE R
for this office, I am motivated
only by the desire to serve the
people of this District. I have no
political axe to grind and shall
represent no clique nor faction. I
shall be a servant of all the
people. The humblest of our citi-
zenry shall receive equal consi-
deration with those who occupy
any other station in life. My de-
cisions as your representative,
shall not be based on political
expediency. I have no desire to
perpetuate my self in public of-
fice by seeking to appease any
minority group, seeking special
privileges from the Federal Gov-
ernment. That, which is for the
best interest of all the people of
these seven counties, will be the
sole determining factor in any
decision I may make or any vote
I may cast.
I have always been a Demo-
crat. The policies and principles
of that great party have repre-
sented the best interest of the
people of the United States. I
now renew my faith and alle-
giance to the Democratic Party.
At the same time I do not be-
lieve in wearing the brass collar
of any man or group of men.
I am opposed to the Civil
Rights' program. Any attempt
to destroy segregation in the
South or to encroach upon States'
Rights, will be bitterly and vig-
orously opposed by me. I shall not
straddle the fence upon this issue
with the hopes of gaining the fa-
vor of interested minority groups
nor shall I remain silent upon this
question until threatened with
probable opposition in the next
election, at which 1 expect to be
a candidate.
In making this "announcement,
I am fully aware of the respons-
ibilities and duties involved. This
nation faces troublesome and tur-
bulent times. Such times require
unselfish devotion to duty and the
consecration of public officials to
the business of promoting th~
welfare of this nation and her
people. I have never been and
am not now an isolationist. Amer-
ica must assume leadership in the
business of establishing peaceful
relations in our world. As a Mem-
ber of Congress, I shall so cast
my vote on all matters involving
international relations. The sacri-
fices of young Americans upon |
the battle fields of the world,
must not have been in vain. This
country must not forget the price
which has been paid for its li-
berty, freedom, and security. To
preserve all of these, this Nation
must remain strong, both from
with in and with out. We must be
strong in our economy at home.
We must be prepared to resist
those forces at work in our world
today which have as their pur-
pose the denial of liberty and
freedom to peoples of the world.
America must lead the way in
thwarting the efforts of any Na-
tion to spread communistic phil-
osophies or doctrines in this
world of ours. Disloyal persons
must be removed from the payroll
of our Government. I am opposed
to the philosophy and political
doctrine advocated by Henry
Wallace. The solution of our in-
ternational problems does not rest
in any program of appeasement.
At a later date, I shall specif-
ically announce my position upon
other vital issues. It shall not be
my purpose to dodge any issue
which may present itself in this
campaign. All of the people are
entitled to know how any public
servant thinks and believes upon
any public question. You arc en-
titled to have that information
directly from the candidate or
public official. It should not be
second hand information.
I invite the examination and
investigation of my record as a
public servant. I served the
people of my home county of
Hunt for eight years, or four
terms, in the Texas House of Rep-
resentatives. I am now serving
my second term as a member of
the Texas Senate from the Tenth
Senatorial District, composed of
Hunt, Collin, Rockwall and Rain.<
Counties.
I invite your support and your
active influence in the days
which lie ahead. With your help,
victory will be ours.

A SHOUT TERMING RADIUS

of ihc work he is doing.
Any man who buys a tractor
buys it for one big reason: the work
the tractor uHl do. The quality of
work, the volume, and the variety
sire the real measures of tractor
value. Couple these factors with
original cost, plus upkeep and
operation, and you have the whole
story.
> That's the way most farmers
figure it out w hen they make this
important investment. The answer
has turned out to be a Far mall
tractor more times thuti all other
makes combined.
That doesn't happen by chance.
It happens because these famous
red tractors are designed and built
to do more work, better work, and
a bigger variety of work per dollar
of cost than anything else on
wheels.
At the right are a few basic rea-
sons behind Farmall tractor per-
formance. We will be glad to
demonstrate how Farmalls, with
their complete line of related tools
and machines, make up the most
efficient system of power farming
in existence.
Those are the big things to
remember when you plan the pur-
chase of farm power equipment.
