Grand Jury Report
For March Term
TO HON. R. H. HARVEY:
The Grand Jury for the March
Term, 1937, of the District Court
of Cass County, reports as follows:
We have made diligent inquiry
into all matters that have come t,o
our attention, and have returned
into court 14 bills of indictment,all
of the grade of felony.
We have personally inspected
the jail and find that it is kept in
as good condition as is possible un-
der the circumstances. We express
our appreciation to Sheriff Harde-
gree for his attention and efforts
in this respect.
We find conditions as to law en-
forcement and observance in Cass
county excellent. There is n o ap-
pearance of organized crime in this
county, and we congratulate the
officers and citizenship upon this
condition.
We thank the court, and all the
officers, including the district and
county attorneys, the sheriff and
his deputies, the Clerk and deputy
and tha Bailiffs for the assistance
given us, and the splendid manner
in which they have all served us.

J. N. Hall Passed
Away Saturday
J. N. Hall, 72, who had been in
failing health for the past two
years, died at his home three miles
west of Linden Saturday morning.
Funeral services were held at the
Methodist church here at 5 o'clock
Sunday evening, conducted by the
pastor, Rev. John Wesley Ford,
assisted by Rev. J. W. Reeder of
Hughes Springs. At the request of
the deceased Sam L. Henderson
also made a short talk. Burial
was in Linden cemetery.
Mr. Hall had been a resident of
Cass County for many years and
had many friends here. He served
as president and as a director of
the National Farm Loan Associa-
tion of Cass County for several
years and was very much interested
in the improvement of farm condi-
tions and rural life.

lock, M. B. Allen, C. R. Newland,
H. C. Grubbs, John Bennett, Will
C. Hornsey, E. W. Crow. Honor-

The Bear Creek 4-H Club
Club-Boys met April 6, at school
house; meeting called to order by
President, Secretary called roll.
Mr. King told us and showed us
how to make a budding knife and
to bud into a tree that has lots of
sap and one that is sap thirsty.
He also showed and told us how to
make budding pads and the two
kinds of budding he discussed was
the T budding and the patch bud-
ding. The club will continue after
sehool closes. Reporter.

Will Preach For Baptist Revival
Revival Meeting
\ Baptist Church
Our Spring Revival will begin
next Sunday April 18. Dr. M. T.
Andrews, Pastor of the First Bap-
tist Church, Texarkana, Texas is to
do the preaching. Dr. Andrews is
known and loved by many of the
citizens of our community. He
held a meeting here some 20 years
ago, some of the present members
of our Church were Baptised by
him at that time. We extend a
cordial invitation to all the people
of the community and surrounding
communities to attend any or all
of our services. The morning ser-
vice will begin at ten fifteen and
continue one hour. The evening
service will begin at 7:45. The
singing will be in charge of our two
efficient Choir Leaders; Mr. T. L.
Stanley and Mrs. R. W. Daniel.
Mrs. W. H. Robertson and Miss
Cora Marett will be at the two
Pianos. We invite all singers to
have a part in the singing.
Last Sunday was a banner day
for us, the people took advantage
of the beautiful weather and came
to all of our services in large num-
bers. Had a 161 in S. S., we were
delighted to have a former pastor,
Rev. S. D. Lunsford of Los Fresnos
with us, and to bring the morning
message. The evening service was
well attended and gave prayerful
attention to the message brought
by the pastor on "Prepared for an
Emergency".
Bear Creek H. D. Club
The Bear Creek Womens H. D.
Club met at 2 p. m. April 6th 1937
with Mrs. L. J. Hatcher, the Presi-
dent in the chair.
We sang several songs after
which twelve ladies answered the
roll call.
The Expansion Committee gave
several reports on help given to
non-club members.
Miss Murray, County Home
Dem. Agent, prepared and served
some strong and mild flavored veg-
etables which the ladies enjoyed
very much. She made us an inter-
esting talk on their nutritional
value, also gave us some valuable
information on over cooking cer-
tain vegetables, such as spinach
and cabbage. She also stressed
serving more vegetables and make
| them as attractive as possible so it
will entice the children to eat more
1 vegetable in order to build a strong
and healthy body.
j For our recreation we had a game
and contest heartily enjoyed by all.

Morris Nelson
Passes Away
Morris Nelson, 42, died in the
Government Hospital at Fayette-
ville, Ark., Sunday, April 11, fol-
lowing an illness of several months,
which developed into pneumonia a
few days ago. The body was
brought back to Linden, arri ving
here early Tuesday morning. 1' u-
neral services were held at t he fam-
ili home Tuesday afternoon at 3
o'clock conducted by Rev. .J. W.
Ford, Pastor of the Methodist
Church, assisted by Rev. T. B.
Randolph, Baptist Pastor. Burial
was in Linden cemetery with the
American Legion in charge.
Mr. Nelson was born in Linden
and spent his entire life here except
the time he was in the army during
the World War. lie was of a quiet
unassuming nature and had many
friends.
Surviving is his aged father and
mother, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Nel-
son, his wife and two sons, Morris
Jr. and Bill Proctor, one daughter,
Mary Kathryn, by a former mar-
riage, two brothers, C. M. Nelson,
of Kildare; Guy Nelson, of Linden;
and four sisters, Mrs. G. W. Shef-
field, of Texarkana; Mrs. E. H.
Sheffield, of Linden; Mrs. Ward
Mollohan, Tuscon. Arz.; and Mrs.
G. C. Riddle, Mt. Pleasant. The
Sun extends siheere sympathy to
the bereaved.
CHECKS RECEIVED
The county agent, Roy King,
informs us that he has received
2594 agricultural conservation pay-
ment checks on 1553 application.
The total amount of the checks to
date is S 133,954.77.
The agent states that there is a
few applications—about 60—that
have not been completely signed.
Therefore, they have not been sent
to the State Office.
Checks are to be received on 300
or 400 applications, states Mr.
King.
