The National Farmers Uuiou
* fixed the minimum price of cot
ton at fifteen cents per pound,
uaidling cottou as the baseis.
""Cotton seeds were priced at
$20 per ton, which is equal to a-
bout thirty three and one third
cents per bushel. We suppose
that includes their delivery on
board the cars, if shipped.
Cotton is rappidly opening,
some of it prematurely, and we
learn that many of the bolls are
effected by the boll wevil. If this
be true the yeald will not be so
great as was hoped, btit "fifteen
eentc will make the crop remu-
nerative. Don't be in a hurry
•to sell. Fifteen cents is a low
price under prevailingcondit ions.

School Fund Distribution.
A number of rich counties in
t he state, where lands are valua-
ble and where there is much oth-
er wealth, and where t here are,
by comparison, but few children,
are disposed to kick because they
pay, in taxes, so much more into
the state than they receive from
the school fund, while other coun-
ties receive two or three times as
much from the school fund :ss
' they poy in tax^s. Some of the
daily papers aro joining in the
growl and contding that it is un-
just.
• Well, Cass County receives con-
siderably more than ii pays in,
but we see no injustice about it.
It only shows that we have not
■■ the wealth, but we do have ttie
children, and the Bible pronoun-
ces a blessing upon him that has
hitKquiver full of them.
Our people give as fair a rendi-
• tion of their property, according
to viU«ue, a3 any in the state.
Wan we be expeeted to do more?
It is proverbial that poor peo-
ple are prolific in children, and
in that, (as Sir Walter.Scot has
King Charles the II to pay,) they
are doing their country good ser-
vice. It is Ivoped these kickers
don't-want us to pay tax on our
children. About all we can do is
to dedicate them to God and the
country. In this we are making
the country rich:, is it not right
for the state to help educate its
own? The state has ularge fund
appropriated to educate her chil-
dren and it should be sent where
tbe children can fie found. Yxm
pay no more taxes, according to
your wealth, than wo do. We
have the children and are entitled
to the school fund. Is there any
thing wrong about thai? .

To Judge P. A. Turner, Dis-
trict. Judge, Cass Co. Texas.
We the Grand Jury empanoled
by y<yir honor for the Augpst
term or the District Court, A. D.
1907, beg lieve to hand in the
following repost:
Wo have impartially and dili-
gently inquired into all of the vi-
olations of the law that came to
our notice, and have found twen-
ty four true bills; nine of which
a re ^misdemeanors and fifteen
felony bills.
We have examined the Jail and
premises and find the sanitary
condition as godd as can be made
under the conditions now exist-
ing. We find our unfortunate
.lunatics and prisoners all in the
sa me cells, and from the fact that
there is hardly a day but what
we ha ve lunatics in our Jail, we
heartily recommend that seper-
ate apartment be built by our
Commissioners Court for our lu-
natics. This can be done by ad-
ding a two-story department to
the present jail.
We have examined carelully
the finance Ledger of our county
I and find our county finances in
jgood shape. Our county has
$4377.40 more in the various
funds of the county than it had a
year ago, which is commendable

and county Judge. We find the
books of the county neat in all
respects ann accurately and cor-
rectly kept as far as we are able
to disclose.
We find some of the accounts
against the justice's of the peace
in an unbalanced condit ion; some
accounts have credits aiid some
debots. This condition ofaffaits
are brought about by the Jus-
tice's of the peace in various
part s of our county not making
their reports to the Commission-
ers Court as they are required to
do by law. We respectfully urge
the commissioners Court to de-
mand these reports so that our
county can have true and exact
accounts against each officer on
our County Finance Ledger.
The office of County Superin-
tendent being created by an act
of the Thirtieth Legislature re-
duced the salary of the County
Judge of our county about .$675.
Believing that this is oue of the
most important offices of our
county, and that efficient men,
such as has kept our county fi-
nances in such fine condition as
heretofore, can not be induced to
accept said office at such a low
salary, we recommend, believing
it to be to the best interest of
our county, that the commis-
sioners Court make up this defic-
it, that ha.s been caused by the
creation of said county Superin-
tendents office, out of the con-
tingent fund of our county.
We desire to return thanks to
Judge V. I). Glass and County
Clerk I. E. Lanier for theefficient
services rendered our Finance,
Committee in getting at the true
conditions of our county finances.
We also desire to thank our
District and County Attorneys
for the able and courteous asist-
ance rendered our body.
We also thank our door bailiff,
Uncle Charlie Davis and our rid-
ing bailiffs for their good servic-
es.
We thank your honor for the
courtecy and support extended,
and for the adle charge given- us
during our session and now beg
of your honor that we be dis-
charged. J. E. Ellington,
