Linden-Kildare Schools
Announce Free-Meal Policy
linden-Kildare Schools recently an-
nounced its policy for free meals for
children unable to pay the full price of
meals served under the national school
lunch program.
The current income scale will be us-
ed by the school to determine eligibili-
ty for free or reduced-price meals.
Children from families whose in-
come is at or below the levels shown
are eligible for free or reduced-price
meals. In addition, families not
meeting these criteria, but with other
unusual expenses due to unusually
high medical expenses, shelter costs in
excess of 30 percent of income, special
education expenses due to the mental
or physical condition of a child and
disaster or casualty losses are urged to
apply
Application forms are being sent to
all homes. Additional copies are
available at the principal's office in
each school. The information provided
on the application is confidential and
will be used only for the purpose of
determining eligibility. Applications
may be submitted at any time during
the year.
In certain cases foster children are
also eligible for these benefits. If a
family has foster children living with
them and wishes to apply for such
meals for them, they should contact
the schools.
In the operation of child feeding pro-
grams, no child will be discriminated
against because of race, sex, color, or
national origin.
Under the provisions of the policy
the school principal will review ap-
plications and determine eligibility. If
a parent is dissatisfied with the ruling
of the official, he may make a request
either orally or in writing to W.A.
Parker, superintendent, or calling
756-5027, for a hearing to appeal the
decision. The policy contains an
outline of the hearing procedure.
Each school and the office of the
superintendent has a copy of the com-
plete policy which may be reviewed by
any interested party.

In Sales Tax Rebates
August sales tax rebates to Cass
County municipalities totaled
$73,758.17 bringing 1983 payments to
date to $404,246, some $29,630 more
than had been returned to the county at
this time last year.
Atlanta's rebate dropped from
$45,432 last August to $40,919 this year.
So far this year, the city has received
$200,754 compared to $235,269 received
by August, 1982. The 15 percent decline
is largely due to a $30,000 repayment
the city had to return to Domino
parlier this year. That repayment was
made after it was discovered that tax
receipts from two stores in Domino
had been piped into Atlanta city cof-
fers for three years.
Queen City received an August
check for $7,389 compared to $4,297 last
August. Rebates there are running a
whopping 263 percent ahead of last
year, due largely to a $30,000 payment
last month. That super-rebate was the
result of the installation of Stauffer
Chemical's $3 million gas sweetening
plant. So far this year, Queen City has
received $57,701 compared to $15,883
received at this point last year.
Linden's August payment of $10,953
virtually matched last year's August
payment of $10,995 brining the total
rebate in the county seal to $45,833 so
far this year, a 4 percent increase com-
pared to the $44,222 received at this
point last year.
Hughes Springs, the Cass County
town most dependent on Lone Star
Steel, continued to show a decline in
retail sales this August. The city's
check this month was for $10,892 com-
pared to $12,852 last August. Produc-
tion of oil country tubular goods at
Lone Star has been at a virtual stand-
still now for one year.
Domino received an August check
for $1,768 compared to $1,473 received
last August. The $30,000 repayment
from the city of Atlanta has helped
boostDomino's rebate so far this year
to $40,998 compared to $10,680 received
at this point last year, an increase of
284 percent.
Bloomburg's August rebate of $609 is
down from $1,053 received a year ago.
The total of sales taxes returned to the
city this year is $3,129 compared to
$2,565 at this point in 1982, an increase
of 22 percent.
In Avinger, the August rebate total-
ed $1,228 compared to $550 received a
year ago this month. The total rebate
there this year is now $4,569 compared
to $3,688 received as of this month last
year, an increase of 24 percent.
