To the President
and Cabinet
of the Republic of Texas

Gent. (Gentlemen)
Persuaded that my presence in the cabinet
at present will be of but little service and that I can
better employ my time in other services of my country
I be leave to tender my resignation as Vice President
of the Republic for reasons which I will explain to
Congress and the Nation.
With sentiments of the highest esteem
I am your obt sevt (obedient servant)
