RAMBLER
Tuesday, December 1Q
Howerton's crew heads for the road
with 3-3 record aad heavy injuries
The TWC roundballers now
stand with a record of three wins
and three losses as they prepare
to meet Tarleton State (Jonight
in Stephenville.
After seeing Howerton's gang
totally humiliate LeTourneau
College in their first game one
might ask, "How could TWC
possibly lose three of their first
six games?"
Well, one of the reasons is
that the team resembles the
third floor of Harjris 'Hospital.
Freshman forward Gerrye Greene
suffered a broken nose early in
the first half of the game against
m*r-
Hardin-Simmons and will be out
for a couple of weeks.
Avery Brown can be seen walk-
ing around campus on crutches
because of some torn ligaments
in his leg 6'6" senior Tommy-
Lane had the flu during the last
two games and Eddie Wright is
still hampered by his knee injury.
. Yet, in spite of these injuries
our team has won three games
and is playing excellent basket-
ball. *
TWC's basketball season start-
ed out with a bang by defeating
LeTourneau 92-62 in Sid Rich-
ardson Gym.
The roundballers then traveled
to Austin where St. Edward's
defeated them in overtime play
94-92.
Tommy Lane took to the boards
scoring 30 poiifts in Tex Wes's
second home game defeating An-
gelo State 104-80. The team then
took to the road only to find
defeat at the hazels of Hardjgi-
Simmons 103-89, Once again
Tommy lane led TWC's scoring
with 21 followed closely by Ver-
non Wright with 20. Vernon also
pullen down ten rebounds in that
game to lead the team.
Burdened down with injuries
against Tarleton State the round-
ballers looked very sluggish but
came out with a win over the
Stephenville crew 77-72.
Howerton's crew led South-
eastern Oklahoma at halftime in
an exciting game that ended in
defeat 73-72. Leroy Lumzy led
the team with 18 points, followed
by Lane with 17 and Brian Com-
stcok with 14.
o The roundballers will not play
at Sid Richardson,. Gym until Jan.
2 when they meet St. Edward's
again. We wish Coach Howerton
and his men the best of luck on
their road trips this month.
BECKY LAMINACK, team
captain, goes up for a free shot
in the women's basketball sea-
son opener. The Rams defeat-
ed Eastfield Junior College
65-316.

the season Tuesday, Dec. 3, de-

65-36. The starters for the charg-
ing Tex Wes team were captains
Becky Lamina c k and Molly
Moore, and newcomers Cyndra
Frick,~>Jan Henry, and Ruby
Rodriquez.
Playing twenty minute halves,
TWC immediately dominated the
game and continued to lead
through it entirely. The score at
t'Se half was 34-18.
In first half action Molly
Moorg lost a contact, which re-
sulted in a replacement by fresh-
man Susie Moore. Then Cindy
Duvall and Debbie Biondi came in
just before Cyndra Frick got a
chance at a fast break and
scored two. Ann Schrader went
in before thj/'half |
talents.
In the second half Kofcyl
riquez took a fast break resi
in a one-on-one. She conn
faked and made u ?hafd
two. To show that Molly
was really on her toes, she J
the rebound from a free J
and made two while the!
players.' stood waiting for a|
ond free throw attempt.
All the team contributt

The crowds thus far at Sid Richardson Gym have been
great. We havfc^en our basketball team under Coach How-
erton win threi«Lgames to only one loss while playing under
home lights. ' r
The team, thq^coring, the coach, and the atmosphere are
all different from last year. If you haven't seen ar basketball
game yet, for heaven's sake go see one. Our roundballers will
be at home again on Jan. 2 playing St. Edward's at 7:30 p.m.
