Symphony No. VII
"Farewell"
By Lea Short
1st Movement: Adagio
Cries of heartbreak ran over violin strings,
Weeping, wailing and pleading their loss;
Plaintive horn notes blared their unrest
With long sighs, brief, unnerving sobs
And quiet notes of final distress.
Blending,-they climbed the stairs
Of one final song of love.
2nd Movement: Largo
Rolling notes of Fate from angry tympani,
Blasting crashes, slow and steady,
From drum and cymbal,
And the crescendo of snares
Never ending, forever rolling.
A low throbbing disavowal
Of all the happiness of love:
"Gone-gone-gone-"
3rd Movement: Andante
The fading cries and sobs of a stripped heart,
Bending and breaking beneath a constant theme;
Fading-fading-gone into the distance-
The last long wail of unrelenting farewell-
And finis is scored.Page 24
