The Shinnery Review offers all students of
Abilene Christian University a venue for
self-expression in the literary and graphic
arts.
As the student body of this university is
varied, so the voices and visions selected
for this year's issue are diverse. Many of
the editors' selections, naturally and
appropriately, are embodiments of Christian
devotion and conviction. In keeping with a
centuries old tradition, writers and artists
have utilized their gifts to communicate in
fresh form the ancient beliefs that are
central to this institution's existence.
However, not all students on our campus are
committed to Christ, nor have all followers
of Jesus within the university arrived at
uniformity of faith or identical levels of
maturity. As a result, some of the works in
this issue raise questions -- even challenges
-- concerning Christian beliefs. Other works
represent non-traditional explorations of
the faith, guided by a believing heart but
spurred by an unsatisfied intellect.
The Shinnery Review, in other words, airs a
dialogue each year that should and must take
place in a Christian institution dedicated
to the pursuit of truth.
