LIFETIME SPORTS. Explorer Henry Reese of
Springfield, Mo., gives rapt attention to bowling
titleholder Dick Weber participating in the Ex-
plorer Sports That Last a Lifetime program. The
program is sponsored by The American Machine
Foundry Company in cooperation with the Boy
Scouts of America to help Explorers develop their
abilities in bowling, golf, swimming, and physical
fitness.
3 STEPS TO SCOUT ADVANCEMENT
I raining your patrol leaders to teach
their patrols the proper way of meeting
requirements is the first step in ensur-
ing proper advancement in Scouting.
Second, make sure your junior as-
sistant Scoutmasters or other instruc-
tors are sharing their Scouting skills
with the patrol leaders.
Third, properly recognize those boys
who do advance. Make a fuss over
them. You'll notice a great big smile
on the boys' faces—and advancement
picking up in the troop.
However, whatever you do, don't
lower requirements standards.
Make sure the Scouts know their
stuff so they will have a sense of real
accomplishment when the job is done.
