COVER
November's cover typifies much that is American, much that is
boy, and much that is Scouting. Days for thanksgiving
sporadically followed events in our history, beginning in
Plymouth Colony, until President Lincoln set the precedent of
a regular national Thanksgiving Day. What boy with a savory
turkey on the table wouldn't peek while grace is offered?
And that combination of peeking eyes and folded hands suggests
what Scouting essentially seeks to do—take boys as they are,
with their natural urges, and encourage their moral and
spiritual growth. The turkey? Oh, that represents Scouting's
program of action for the boy.
