SELLING POLICY
Certain advertisements appearing in the
magazines of the Boy Scouts of America pre-
sent opportunities for individual Cub Scouts,
Boy Scouts, and Explorers to earn money to
finance their own participation in program ac-
tivities and to purchase their uniforms and
equipment, or for their units' programs. They
"help a boy to pay his own way." The selling
of any product shall be done on its merits. Sell-
ing must not be done in uniform or in the
name of Scouting as this would violate our
policy of not permitting the movement to be
used for commercial purposes.

Scouting and
Farm-City
Farm-City Week will be observed in-
ternationally November 16-22. Aimed
at promoting better understanding of
the interrelatedness of farm and city
people, it provides an excellent oppor-
tunity for Scouting to tell of its rural-
urban program through specially
planned interunit farm-city functions.
Releases to the press, radio, and tele-
vision should point out that the council
is made up of representatives of all
areas—rural and urban alike—and that
it is the council's responsibility to give
Scouting to all boys. Such stories also
provide an excellent backdrop for Boy
Scout and united fund finance cam-
paigns.
Increasing numbers of Scouters are
working with local Farm-City Week
committees in planning observances.
The Blue Grass Council, of Lexing-
ton. Kentucky, in cooperation with the
local Kiwanis club, established a Scout-
ing trail as "A Path into History" that
took Scouts through historic buildings
and homes in and around the city and
ended at the Faraway Farm where the
famous thoroughbred Man o' War was
raised.
Other councils have arranged ex-
change visits between farm and city
Scouts. Rural units have invited city
units to join them in a cookout or other
intertroop meeting or activity; later,
the city troop returns the honor. Some
units have prepared exhibits depicting
the interdependence of farm and city
people and displayed them when visit-
ing another unit or placed them in store
windows. Scouting groups have partici-
pated in farm-city programs at meet-
ings of service clubs, churches and
synagogues, schools, and other com-
munity groups.
