As we celebrate Boy Scout Week we can look back with
pride on forty-eight years of service to boyhood and to
our nation.
It is more important, however, that we look forward to the op-
portunities that challenge us in the year ahead. Our National Safety
Good Turn opens up rich possibilities for training and for service.
It would be hard to think of anything more practical. We have the
opportunity to alert not only our own membership but many millions
of citizens in homes, organizations, and communities all over America
to give more than lip service in this effort to conserve human life.
We are finding safety-minded organizations all over our nation
eager to cooperate with us in this project.
On this birthday occasion, when we all rededicate ourselves to
the Scout Oath and the Scout Law, let every Scouter commit himself
to a very definite part in this practical expression of our ideals.
